  1. Hi all, just curious if anyone has done work or worked in arb in Dubai. Or gardening etc.
Moving out there in Jan and thought I’d try this site for any type of contact.

Range from CS 30 up to 41 and more.

    Thanks!

Hi, I was just wondering if there is a way I can make my own adjustable lanyard for when blocking down stems with just rope, karabiners, fisherman's ted into them and friction cord? Or is this not possible?

Currently I climb on 2 lines, one long rope and one shorter for positioning. But when blocking down stems and both are choked round the tree and going to my bridge its not the most stable.

Yep. Lots of folk use rope instead of a wire core flipline. You can just whack a prussock on it or a pulley and friction cord. You'll be much better with it on your side d's

Thanks, and then you would add a pulley for self tending if you wanted too? I guess also how would I make it, I've tried using the rope, tied fishersmens into the karabiners on both ends but then you add the friction cord and when you try to adjust you're just left with a big circle, you know? like on a petzl grilling lets say, the rope runs straight through the cam when adjusting slack and tension.

Do you mean comfortable like saw hips/crushed bollocks or comfortable find it all alarming?

Yeah more like the fact like when you’re just freehanging my mind is like ahhhh

and limbwalks I need to practice, I use a main line and then a shorter secondary so no like lanyard for me but I think it’s down to the fact that on my course I was out on a oak limb and swung right back in the trunk!

  5. Thanks for replies guys, I appreciate it and will try a few different cords out.

On another note but I'm sure and often asked question, how can I feel more comfortable in the tree? I've only been properly climbing a few months and working with guys who have 10+ years experience (and they have been brilliant, helpful and reassuring) just sometimes I feel like a bloody idiot! It really is all just in my head I'm just hoping after a year or 2 i'll be flying around the tree. Did anyone else experience this starting out?

To be honest, I haven't climbed with some of the later hitch cords on the market.  Pretty sure armor prus would work well with your rope.  Others may offer better alternatives.

As with everything, the recommendations vary.  With a vt I would say 8mm would work better, other knots might well prefer 10mm

I'll get some 8mm and just try different configs to see what works for me! Thanks.

Try a knut knot. Had the same as you 10mm op with 13mm yale or new England . Hitch needed setting every time. Someone suggest a knut. Works well not looked back. The op will bed in after a bit

Thanks for reply I will try this knot next time.

could be a few reasons, but in your case I think its down to a poor hitch cord/rope combination.

Good rule of thumb with hitch cords it to use a hard cord on a soft rope, and vice versa.  You are using a hard cord on a pretty hard rope(if memory serves), add into that the choice of 10mm cord rather than 8mm and you're always going to be struggling.

That being said, the OP cord is known for taking a bit of bedding in, so it might improve a bit.  I'm not a fan of the cord personally.

When you are sitting back on it whilst aloft are you doing so tentatively?  That can also make a difference.  For example if you just let go and sat back on it quickly it would probably be more likely to grip than if you ease your weight onto it.  Not an ideal situation though.

Thanks for the response, see I didn’t know about the soft/hard rope, cord combo this is why I’m here! Do you have any recommendations for E2E cord apart from OP? Also I read I should have 10mm if I’m using a 13mm rope should I try and 8mm next? But yes, I was sitting back on it quite slowly.  What hitch would you recommend for beginner I’ve heard a VT can be temperamental when sitting back on it possibly slipping abit which is not what i’d like atm! I currently climb on a standard Blake’s hitch DRT with my main line and a shorter secondary line for work positioning. Some days I do feel it in my elbows!
