  1. No accreditation, no office staff, 70/30 domestic commercial I started out of college here as I knew the science but no idea how to actually do the job. Went from 3 including myself and boss man to 6 full time staff and 8 subbies in 5 years
  2. This is what I was thinking. Did you hit the ground running, plenty good work? Where were your best returns from in regards to advertising?
  3. Why would you have to compete with bottom feeders? I price 70% of the work that comes into my current employer, and I know they are 1/3 new customers or people who approach when they see us working and of these we get just over 2/3 of them in spite of bottom feeders lurking in every corner.
  4. Why would you say this? The margins seem good at least for some?
  5. Hi, I’ve been working full time employed 5 days a week for 5 years now as an arborist, i am very well payed by industry standards and staff privileges are great; I would however like to start on my own as I see it as the only way of increasing my monthly take home. In my ignorance I ask these 2 questions... If you were starting your business over a fresh what would you have done differently? If you had £50,000 cash to startup and only a full climbers kit and top handle, what would you prioritise in terms of kit and survival for bumpy first year or 2?

If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.
