  1. Oh it was a very large blue mysterious cloud bud, at one point i thought the neighbors would be ringing 999. There was rather a lot of gunk that reared it's ugly head mate to be seen no more i hope ,like you say it explains it all doesn't it as you correctly point out the oil would not drain from the exhaust port that easily,at least if you ever come across this again you'll know where to look,i'm now a happy Bunny again thanks to you lot. Guess what i'll be doing tomorrow.
  2. Here's another clue........
  3. Que a Fanfare of Trumpets, the damn thing is fixed,da da der da. Right first and foremost i would like to thank everyone on here for all your invaluable help with the posts you have saved me nigh on £100 notes which i don't have spare at the moment ,so cudos to all again. Right well now you want to know what i have done to fix it,and i want to say that Mr Spud u Like came up with the goods initially and put me on the right step, the problem i had as you may have gathered by now was the addition of some 3 in 1 light machine oil through the plug hole on the advice of one very good experienced car mechanic friend of mine.We thought at the time that this was a good idea as the saw had stood for three years, and it was not offering to pull over smoothly at all upon first inspection.little did we know but this just compounded our problem which led to the saw for want of a better term going into a state of Hydraulics. This led to us thinking that even more oil was needed so we did add more oil only to make matters worse still . Because of this excess oil addition resulting in extra compression in the saw being as hard as fk to turn the thing over with the pull rope i decided to follow Spuds advice to the letter over night last night, and thankfully the bulk of the oil was ejected, however upon refitting the muffler the damn thing was still a bastard to turn over so i thought can only be one last thing to try......... I Won't reveal what I did just yet,so come on guys ???What did i do to get the little beauty purring .Oh and this particular thing had been the most likely result of what we did three weeks ago, thinking logically.
  4. Ok here are some pictures of the cylinder and piston.I have done what Spud suggested so i'm just going to put the muffler back on to see if it's pulling over as it should do fingers crossed.
  5. Oh so quite close then,i'm treading water with it at the moment so this might be an option.
  6. I was advised by someone ,a car mechanic actually he reasoning was that in order to get it started because it had not run for 3 years wa to let the oil give it an helping hand when all it has done is hinder.
  7. I'm in Derbyshire Eric Heanor. to be precise.
  8. Thanks for all replies,i will report back when i have done some of the things suggested and taken some pics.
  9. It's a MS181c Spud.
  10. It's a MS181 C Iis what it says on the box anyway.
  11. The oil was added three weeks ago after that i just left it but now i really need the saw for the logs. As for the brake ,i tried pulling it over with both on and off situations. The ignition module was gapped using a business card but that isn't the issue as it's getting a spark.
  12. Will get some pictures up on here as soon as,and will look at getting the Clutch drum off,to be honest one thing i noticed after having removed the muffler and turning the flywheel was a loud sucking noise like a carp rising up for a dog biscuit for any fishermen reading this, seems to be a lot of compression going on here.
  13. At the moment getting someone else to look at it is not an option unfortunately as i am in between jobs at the moment and funds are low .Nothing wrong with the clutch on inspection so ruled that one out.It isn't the Ergo Start model ,Will look on youtube for some ideas.Cheers for reply.
  14. Hello Again,Not sure if i'm making matters worse here but this is what i have done so far.I poured some neat petrol down the plug hole tipped it upside down and kept on pulling the cord, did this for 10 minutes or so but still the same so i decided to remove the muffler and again i poured some neat petrol into exhaust port and did the same but it still hasn't done the trick.and the pull cord is still not pulling over as easily as it should do, have walked away from it and left the machine upside down hoping that some of the oil will drain out This has got me thinking that maybe i need to remove the engine and remove the crankcase to get rid of the oil that way ,???Question is how big of a job is this and would it be worth trying if it is.
  15. Thanks Eric will give it a go later.
  16. Thanks for the reply,It was stored in an Outhouse which is cold in the winter but dry and not damp, and there are no signs of any corrosion anywhere,i changed the ignition module because there was no spark so don't really know what happened with the old one .You say there's a clutch on the saw which could have rusted ?where would i find the clutch.Your point about the chain brake has got me thinking,?is it the norm to start these saws with the chain brake on.I have not actually put the chain back on since i tried to get it going which is probably three weeks now .So the oil has been in that long.Tomorrow i will have a go at the things you are advising and see what happens and report back,so thanks again for your help.
  17. Hi All .Been reading the forum for a while now so thought i would join,it's a good place to be. Well here's the story with the saw, it was bought 3 years ago to saw some conifers down that were taking over my front garden.Well it managed this job no problem so after the job was done i put the saw into storage until it was needed ,and now i need it to cut some logs up for the woodburner.Three years ago i emptied the fuel tank but left the chain oil in the machine as i was advised to do so but when i looked at the saw the oil had all ran out of the machine anyway. So this is what i have done to it.Btw the saw pulls over quite easily with the plug removed, but when installed it's like pulling a train. 1.Put some thin oil into the cylinder as it was difficult to pull over initially. 2.Put a new spark plug in. 3.Fitted a new Stihl ignition module as there was no spark, this has now cured the spark problem. ?What else should i be doing to get the thing going
