Well this week we had two days felling conifer and dragging to the chipper in the pi$$ing rain. The customer for two days watched us and drank coffee from her conservatory window while we got wet and cold. Didn't offer a drink but did ask if we could move our truck and chipper off the drive so she could get her car near her front door. The Truck went on the road making the drag longer so the customer didn't get wet unloading shopping. We completed the job with a smile and left the site moaning what a miserable so and so she was.
Todays job, customer was at work but left a nice note and refreshments should we need them. He had put tea and coffee a kettle and some biscuits in the summer house below the tree we felled. I just had to post his note because it made me smile and to all of you that got soaked this week I hope it puts a smile on your face. When he came home he even made bacon and egg butties !

Last branch of the day through the chipper on Friday and the fan belt broke and destroyed itself. Can anyone let me know what the replacement part number is...its not readable on the belt now. I have sent Greenmech an email but was hoping one of you nice chaps would know so I can order off the net and save a trip 60 mile round trip to my local supplier . The belt measures 300mm x 8mm .
Thank you.

Just had a little gander ...... Is this your company ?
One of the projects stated that a tree surgeon was certified to climb to 56FT ....... ?
Never heard of this height specific malarkey before ?
Our insurance was worded along the lines of any tree in the uk .... height unlimited .
Although I think our insurers messed up when there said we could clear ivy from any building up to the gutter level ....? Really ......
haha no nothing to do with me . I gave a quote to a potential customer who said I was too expensive and sent me this link. just made me smile so I thought I would share it.

Thanks David ,
That makes sense.
The failed limb we removed ,when cut in a section looked like the damage was only 1/2 inch deep and all of the scars show sighs of compartmentalization . I am a bit unsure what to recommend that's best for this tree. Its very close to the house and a public road. Is it best to leave it and inspect it every year or a reduction to take some weight off the limbs.
The customer is talking about felling but I think that's a bit extreme …. but I'mnot responsible for it !!

Hi Treeation,
Yep I don't think it is squirrel damage but that was my first thought ...its every where even on vertical branches.

Ok so I this week I had a little accident ... after telling our new Groundie not to walk under the felling zone when our climber is cutting I did just that ,chipper running ear defs on climber just topped a 60ft conifer . It hit my helmet first pushing my chin into my chest and I just collapsed underneath it. My injuries bruised nose and eye socket caused by the helmet, bruised shoulders and back caused by the helmet ,(feels like whip lash) and left ankle folded not broken but cant walk because of ligament damage...I was lucky.
I was wearing a climbing helmet not a ground helmet . the climbing helmet has a chin strap and I believe this caused my back and neck injury's a ground helmet I believe would have taken the blow then slid off , if that makes sense... just wondered how may of you do ground work with a climbing helmet because we climb mostly or have two lids ground and climbing ??

Actually my Jensen did this and the fault was traced to the bearings on the roller shaft . Sorry meant to put this with my previous post.

Sounds like the directional control valve is sticking...its the thing the two solenoids slide on two. When its is running try sticking a small screwdriver in the end of the valve of the forward solenoid valve they some times get stuck and don't allow the spool valve to open/close properly. Best bet is take it to a hydraulic fitter and see what they say. The spool valves in the directional control valve aint interchangeable so a new valve might be needed.

We are a small family run business looking for a skilled climber to help out on a casual basis, I would also consider someone who is willing to learn the trade who already has his tickets but with little experience.
We are based in Evesham Worcestershire. Please Pm for more info.
Thank you, Jase.

Jack, Talk to a solicitor mate that's the only advice I can give you. If the council are threatening you with legal action talk to someone who actually knows the law and not someone who thinks they know...It could end up costing you money if you get bad advice.
