Thanks for replies- it's a bit more than I thought it would cost especially as it's distance learning....

Hello,
Can anyone post which training providers do alevel 4 distance learning/ part time course and rough prices? I have looked at a few websites- the training tree and treelife but they all ask you to email for prices- why can't they just say online? I am interested but also interested in comparing costs to other qualifications.

Trained ecologist/botanist looking for freelance ecology work in south/mid Wales and the marches.
Specialist in phase 1 and vegetation surveys, EPS licences held and experienced in report writing for planning applications.
Anabat express bat detectors for hire on a weekly basis- can be left for days at a time passively recording or can supply staff for surveys.
Digital endoscopes also for hire for looking into voids on trees etc.
Freelance so good rates and free quotes.
Thanks.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the info- what's your opinion on my current qualifications being relevant to bs5837 surveys ( once I have completed the PTI).
I work for forest research doing a lot of tree health surveys among a lot of other stuff, have an msc in forest ecosystems, in previous roles undertaken tree surveys on lower risk sites (did the basic tree survey course), associate member of chartered foresters and hoping to become full member next year. Got chainsaw tickets including large trees but no climbing.
Is that enough to be considered competent or would an arb qualification be better as my other experience is forestry related?

Thanks for the info- will look into the bs a lot more and maybe have a chat with treelife etc

I take it for undertaking bs5837 arb reports you need a L4 or L6 arb qualification and some other tickets then?
-
Interested in it as I do some ecological surveys for development and my clients sometimes ask for tree surveys etc so would be good to offer the whole package rather than sub it out all the time. Also in my forestry role I sometimes have some higher risk sites- roadside trees, trees around buildings etc. Interested in fungi and general tree health as well. Got pi insurance for my current work.

Hello,
I work in forestry and qualified up to Masters level as well as having all my practical tickets etc..
I am interested in he PTI course but to use it in a professional context do I need a formal arb qualification? I understand there are differences between arb and forestry and all the British standards etc but I am not in a position financially or time wise to get into arb qualifications.
Any help or pointers would be great,
Thanks

It's used a lot in continuous cover forestry in regards to stability etc- try looking for some FC information notes or the continuous cover forestry group for further information.

Anyone used one of these log lifters? I've seen a few different ones Around but this looks well engineered and a good price?
