  1. Apologies if this isn't the right place (or forum!) and for what may be a very silly query. A quick question about this bit of oak - mostly for my education than anything else as I'm no tree or wood expert. Is the paler wood on the edge 'sapwood'? Why does some oak hardly have any whilst this piece seems to have lots? What do people do with the sapwood (other than steer clear of bits of timber with it on ) leave it? treat it? cut it off? On sanding it it feels very soft. Thanks in advance and feel free to pass me the dunces hat...
  2. Thanks - agreed sounds like it'll be a bit wet for me. A shame as it looks very nice!
  3. Guys, thanks for all your responses (and apologies for my slow reply). Some amazing looking wood. I now need to think of some more things I need to make to make use of some of it...maybe a coffee table? Side table for the hallway... Sorry not a huge fan of beech although if you have a pic of the spalting it could sway me - how big are the slabs? How dry? Looks very nice - how much are you after? Air dried for how long? Thanks - will give them a go. James - looks amazing! How many pieces do you have left? What sizes? I could be interested in the elm slabs - what have you got? Are they dry? Sorry Rob - not a fan of redwood
  4. Hi All, I'm after a nice slab to make a new desk out of at home - dimensions anything around 1700x650mm or bigger. I'll consider any wood as long as it's got some character to it. Kiln or air dried please. Noticed a post a while back from someone after a kitchen table sized slab which got some good responses so thought I'd try my luck. If single slabs are not your thing happy to consider buying a few as I have friends who have expressed an interest too. Let me know what you have (pics & prices). I'm based in the South East near Sevenoaks. Thanks in advance, Mark
