No, it was just generalised cynicism. Forget it, I am just a bit of a grump sometimes and the Slater article always came across to me as not particularly constructive.
I find this comment really interesting - and summing up of a generation of arborists I've encountered. Slater's article is about opening doors to more study - about recognising a vast number of studies and scientists work. It's about recognising the limitations of past thinking and moving forward.
I think it's one of the finest arb articles I've read in my 6 year career - and it's moved things on considerably. Matthecks publication of a model in 2013-2015, having apparently paid no attention to Slater's work further shows how important it was for someone like Slater to punch outside the box that everyone was trapped in.
Bloody good on him I say. Upset the apple cart to get the horse moving!

Thanks guys! I just hit the books and found the answer in Body language of trees. I nearly fell asleep though! Love it really but I'm finding the branch attachment thing a bit hard to grasp.
Thanks for the links JaySmith. I'm looking forward to going through that and it will be really helpful for another assignment.
daltontrees you are cruel but I understand and appreciate the post. Its good to hear from people on hear as theirs a lot of knowledge and experience.
I find this really interesting.
"found the answer" they wanted, not necessarily the correct answer when you account for all the new research -
Hi folks,
We have just signed up to a year with Jobber (http://share.getjobber.com/mQgiLas).
It looks ideal for small companies and large. Managed the whole flow from initial enquiry to final invoice and feedback.
Some features aren’t yet available in the UK (sms reminders and online payments) but comparing it with other options the pros greatly outweigh the cons.
Well worth a look if you’re comparing options (ArbPro, ArborGold etc etc).
Feel free to shout here I’d you get stuck - their help is great though.
If you use my referral code you’ll get a free month to trial it. Referral code is SIMONFORSTER

As soon as you add your 8k they'll withdraw it all. Be very careful.

Hi all - this is a fraudulent company.

Probably asked a million times.. but what gloves are people using for climbing?
I've had a pair of ARBORTEC gloves for about 40 hours use and they're ruined.
Pretty disappointed.
Anything lasting a while or are they all like butter?

So...
Using the wrong oil ratio would void the warranties on the tools.
As for different oils, I'd assumed that say Stihl which says 50:1 oil on the bottle is different from a 25:1 oil... Is this not the case?
I appreciate that the numbers are ratios, I'm not that daft, but it would also suggest when looking at what's available that they're actually different in makeup?
Am I wrong?
I toyed with running them all on 50:1, but the warranty issue was a concern.
Cheers

I need to carry three mixes of fuel, 25:1 40:1 and 50:1 for different tools. I'm looking at buying oil in larger quantities now that my business has started up properly (not just litre bottles) and want to carry fuel to jobs are mixed.
Other than having three fuel cans labeled with a marker or stickers do you lot have any other clever suggestions for the fuel situation ...
And as for 2 stroke oil, any suggestions to save money in the long run. I'm gonna have to buy three different oils and have three different mixes as things stand.
Cheers folks

Yeah - however it's throughout the full extent of the main stem and on a species not readily associated with wet wood so I'm a little cautious dismissing it as such - i'm thinking it's more likely a symptom of something else
