1. Wasn’t done under my instruction, trying to make the best of a bad job. There are eight mature trees in that large pile. There are four other trees which have been stripped and are just the trunk they are laying separately elsewhere.
2. A forum member did the work having contacted me via PM. His username is Nickc but it looks like he’s not been active on the forum for a couple of years.
3. Hi, I’ve got a large pile of felled trees that either needs to be cut into rings or processed into firewood. Access is good for a transit sized van or similar.
4. Indeed. I knew nothing about pricing stump grinding til yesterday but even I could smell the money!
5. I did but from what I have read the pedestrian machines are hard work to use and I am guessing I'd need several days hire for such a machine! I might be able to save money BUT I have two young kids and I'd have to do it over a few weekends as I am traveling every other week for work at the moment so time is precious etc That and I have 6 or 7 tons of logs to worry about splitting !
6. Pics as requested...the stumps with the eco plugs are Trees Of Heaven that had gone "viral"...previous owner had cut two of the four down and not poisoned them so when we turned part of the garden was like something out of Day of the Triffids! The moss covered stumps were under a big clump of nettles and brambles, trees were cut down at least ten years ago. And a pic of the tree line that was cleared....gives an idea of access And lastly for no good reason other than thought you chaps might appreciate it...the pride and joy...Sequoia in the front garden although the **** that lived here 20 years ago cut the top 30 feet off!
7. I'll take some pictures tomorrow and post them on here.
8. Okay understand. I don't understand the rationale for charging me to hire the equipment though....I mean that's like having your cake and eating it as a contractor. No capital outlay/depreciation/maintenance on the equipment and charge the client for the hire when you need it? Very happily pay for a bigger machine if it does it quicker!
9. He's quoted £4000 inc VAT one person operating a Predator 50. Reckons it will take a week. That includes the hire charge of the grinder...
10. The biggest is a meter across plus roots, I would say there are another ten to fifteen which are large (60 cm across). The rest are anything from 15 to 30 cm across. On top of that are quite a lot of much smaller what I suppose would have been suckers.
11. Okay...I have massively under estimated. Just went for a walk round the garden. I had forgotten how many small trees/large shrubs the gardener has removed on top of the trees felled recently and there are quite a few from before we moved in which have been uncovered when we cut undergrowth back. It's more like 100!
12. Clear up it is not a problem....have a couple of huge piles of wood chips that can happily be added to which will be composted over time. I am sure you're right about the bigger the better!
13. I'd be staggered if it could be done in a day, maybe I've made it sound too easy. Stumps are not all in one place. The last bit of felling was one tree line but there's been a fair bit down before that. All corners of our 2 1/2 acres. I reckon just moving around would take a while!
14.
Hi cheib I am located in the reading area so south bucks is not to far your looking around 650 - 700 a day for a team of 3 which can do quite a bit and for stump grinding your looking around 600 with a large machine if you need anymore just ask thanks
