    Would be handy to have a battery indeed. I am looking to use my own massive battery in a backpack to gain considerably more cutting time and marginally higher chain speed (more than the Stihl backpack battery). My battery is 38V and comes hot off the charger at around 43V. I would need to know the signal voltage of the two middle pins when the saw is switched on from the battery. I need to recreate it to make the speed controller switch itself on and use my own battery.

    Sweet. Thanks for getting back with the info porky. Now it appears to get trickier. Does that reading change when you press the on/off button on the battery?

    Thanks for your replies. You can't hold me back on this one though. I work with these types of motors, speed controllers and batteries on a daily basis and I am very comfortable with the operation. I am simply looking to improve the performance of this saw and fancy experimenting with electric chainsaw technology. I know what I am doing with the batteries and have no problem whatsoever voiding stihl warranty or cooking the speed controller in the worst case (I've got spares) I am not going to spend £200 on an authentic stihl battery and charger. So if someone out there has got a multimeter and wants to help a fella out by giving some technical information I would much appreciate it.

    Hello folks, I've got a Stihl battery chainsaw to play with. I've got no stihl AP180/300 battery for it but have got several massive lithium batteries I use on my electric bikes. The saw takes a battery with 4 pin connector, with 36v positive and negative on the outside. Could someone who has got the battery please measure the voltage/signal of the two middle pins for me. It appears to be some sort of a switch signal that the motor speed controller needs to run. Any info much appreciated! Stihl UK just refused to give me this information. Uula
