Nice one.I've done similar with a bit of orange leather I had.The small one fits in the catty & weighs about 100gms.The larger one is about 300gms.I filled mine with dry sand.
Excuse my ignorance, what would the bottom loop be for?
Hi ! I was wondering how leather throwbags takes abuse ? The bottom loop is to attach additional throw bag if needed or spliced rope with small binner. But those are not all options [emoji1]

Are you happy with Liros ? never used it.
My favorite is Gleistein Polyethylene throw line.
Gleistein - Productsheet: Throw Line PE
It's a little bit stiff and not as as strong as Liros but really cheap and very slick, you can get it in 100 meters spools for something like 12 GBP.

Steel shot is safer i presume than the lead?....
Yes, it's much safer for you and for the environment if the bag burst, also in addition if you are using shot with a high chromium content you do not have to worry about rust coming out of your throw bags if they get wet ( compared to regular high carbon shot ).
On the other hand throw bags with steel shot are much bigger than lead shot because of density of steel ( 7,87 / cm3 ) vs. lead ( 11.34 / cm3 ).

Yeah a loop on the bottom would be useful.
I plan to do it in the next series, in addition it will be made of a different kind material and other thread, to be specific it will be aramid woven fabric ( with a rubber bladder inside ) and spectra thread but only if I'll be able to get needle for this kind of thread.

Hi,
just want to show you another set of my DIY throw bags.
from the right to left the weight is:
1. 180 gram - 6.3 ounces
2. 320 gram - 11.2 ounces
3. 320 gram - 11.2 ounces
4. 420 gram - 14.8 ounces
5. 400 gram - 14.1 ounces
Those two heaviest are filled with steel shot and works great with magnets.
First crash-tests passed successfully, but there are still few things to improve.
what do you think ?

Pioter- I haven't hold tree up harness in hands but by pictures it does looks way different then TH 7000. TH7000 looks much bulkier more comfi and better made.however I didn't like it my HT cos of that bulkiness.didn't realized it has saddle instead leg loops which I much preference.I bought it for 100 brand new and sold it straight away for 140.now hunting for something lighter as I climb just hobby.
Hi Lako !
It may look different but those are the same harness and there are three models.

I've got the basic model th020 and to be honest the only reason i've got it is the price :-D you really cant get anything else for that money specific for tree climbing.
Best regards and stay safe !

Hello everyone !
Im looking for full time job in tree industry preferably close to Blackburn, but if necessary I can move anywhere in the UK, I have Polish chainsaw operator and logger license, did tree worker course (arborist course) in Poland as well. I will do any English certificate if need. I am honest and I like to work hard. I can work both as groundsman and climber / second climber. I have my own basic gear for start.
Best Regards !
Piotr

Hello there !
I'm completely new here and want to say hello
I left my life as a corporate rat and decided to combine both my love to rock climbing and trees and become an arborist. I did chainsaw operator and logger license, did tree worker course (arborist course) and started working on trees. I'm here mainly because I want to learn something new and meet new friends.
Cheers from Poland !
Piotr

I don't think that I over engineering the problem, why not make something better when it could be done ? even if it is something as simple as a throw bag
Besides I just like to experiment with different materials, to check how they will perform in a variety of applications and conditions...and of course for training and fun.
ps. sorry guys and girls for my poor English
