Thanks for the reply Logan Granted I had given the saw a really good cleaning before this. As yet I have not cut anything with it since I first saw the oil running from it so that might well be my 'problem'. The chain is being oiled Ok and the bar groove and oil holes have all been blown out with the air line. I have run the saw at full revs with the bar nose pointed to the floor and oil is definitely reaching the end of the bar (oil on floor). In the past it has always been two fills of fuel to one fill of oil but i will check after my first fill of fuel to see what oil is left in the tank.

I have stripped the oil pump out, cleaned all excessive oil from the saw. I then ran the saw with the bar and chain but without the sprocket cover and have found that as the chain goes round the bottom of the sprocket and up to the top of the bar it flings oil upwards onto the plastic housing. This oil then runs down the plastic cover into the sprocket and through the sprocket opening and underneath the plastic cover and down to the oil pump and from there out through the bottom of the plastic cover. This has only happened since I started using Stihl chain oil, which is much thinner and less sticky than the oil I had been using in the past. I have gone back to my original oil but it is still loosing oil. I still think that too much oil is being pumped out but for the life of me I cant see why and as far as I am aware there is no way of adjusting the flow of oil on the 028 AV Super.

Hi All Firstly thanks for adding me. I have a Stihl 028 AV Super. Just recently it has started to leak chain oil from the bottom of the sprocket cover. The chain and bar are being oiled Ok. I had replaced the oil seal on the oil pump thinking that it might have been that as the old seal was badly worn. The new oil seal has made no difference to the leak. I have run the saw without the guide bar and sprocket cover. Oil is being pumped out Ok but to my mind it is pumping out too much. Has anyone come across this before? Has anyone got any idea as to what the problem might be? Thank You in advance
