  1. Wife out on a jolly just now so she'll pick up a bottle of Roundup concentrated stump killer as it's available locally, Gallup I can't get unless mail ordered.....reference drilling holes, how deep/wide etc? Would it be best to use a wood bit for larger holes or just a HS bit? The tree was felled over a year ago BTW so unsure if I need to take any off the top or just drill away......ref' the salt method, the stump is cornered against a side and shed wall so can only get to half the cambial layer.

  2. Hi all,

I have an Ash tree stump that needs killing off, it's about 2 1/2 ft across...what would be the best way to get this killed off asap? ie: is it best to drill around outer edge, what product do I need to buy etc? Also the stump stands about 18 inches or so out of the ground, would it be best to cut it down a little more first?

    Any advice much appreciated...........

  3. Would seem like a bad idea! Any bits of dirt etc mixing with the grease would turn it in to a grinding paste

I only noticed earlier while clearing the head of tangled bramble that a small stick had worked it's way in there so what you're suggesting makes sense, i'll try and temporarily plug it in some way then....:thumbup1:

  4. Hi Guys,

I lost the grease cap/screw/bolt whatever on my brush cutter and need it tomorrow for 3 ish hours work......will it be ok to run without this little bleeder in place?

Blob of silicone do for now or am I worrying for nowt? no-one seems to hold stock and it's a weird size so have nothing here to use as a stop gap.

  5. Ta' Spud, yes the plug is fine (old one in there looked like it may of been there years so just making sure with a new one) and it's running very well, taken your point on the grease :thumbup1:

It's a damn good cutter is this, any ideas on age at all?....either it's lead a charmed life or been looked after, it runs very smooth/strong and sounds lovely.

  6. Can anyone help me with a few questions reference the above cutter please......recieved today, fired up well and revs freely and smoothly but want to grease gearbox and replace spark plug. Two things, is Oregon gear grease (used in the strimmer gearbox) suitable? also I have a new NGK BPM7RA plug although the manual calls for BPM7A...would this plug suit as I'm guessing it's the same plug but with a resistor fitted?

Plug good, any ideas on the grease?

    Appreciate any help.............:confused1:

  8. Best pro hedgecutter, period.

That settles the nerves a bit......looking forward to getting and firing up :001_smile:. Just have to cobble together a platform and that'll be me happy for as long as it takes. I've sort of given up on using the extended effort, more than anything I can't really see what's going on and the finish isn't great. Wanted a decent blade length to be able to get a nice flat finish right across, there is some thicker stuff growing throughout the privet which i'm hoping this cutter will sort.

  9. I have just bought one of the above on a bit of an impulse buy really....I have been using a cheaper Ryobi hedge trimmer attatchment on an extension (and an electric trimmer) and it's not been particularly good to cut approx 150ft of 7ft high privet. The above appears in good condition, blades sharp and starts and runs very well apparently but what should I expect? are these good units if up together?

I know these are single sided, which will take some getting used to, but other than that I can't seem to find much info' on them.

  10. It's a great little tool...really torquey and smooth, makes a change from the two-stoke for sure, I really like it. I'll keep my eye on it as I'm using it with a blade over the next day or so but there doesn't appear to be any issues. I sent a few e mails off earlier for price/availability.

  11. I just bought a s/h Honda UMK425UE brushcutter, works very well with the strimmer head but noticed there is a little play when fitting a blade because the raised section of the circular part the blade fits over is slightly worn, (by about 1mm)...once bolted down it seems to run without any problem/vibes so either I got lucky when fitting it or it doesn't really matter!?

Would you run it like this or replace that part? ie: should the blade be a tight fit generally?

  12. Hi all,

Talking to a friend who has large lawned garden (approx 1/3 acre maybe a little more) he is looking for both a self prop' mower and a 4 stroke (?)strimmer/bc...I am guessing Stihl for the latter?

Any advice on the above, especially mowers please, he has mentioned the Mc CullochM46-125WR...I know their chain saws leave a little to be desired but are their mowers any good? is it really beneficial to go for 4 stroke on the strimmer? etc.

Much appreciate honest opinions/advice to pass on.

  13. 1100 or 1200 Dunc?

Standard 1100 TW........there were a few V&M 1200 specials made (distinctive colour scheme/tuned engine) but few and far between now as most would sat in collectors garages gathering dust and value, they will be worth a prety penny now. Blackbirds like mine are avaialble for not much money, mine is worth only £2k approx' even though she is up together.

    http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/19768/lot/231/ V&M one's are pretty ain't they?

  14. Same here - just fill her up and go for a ride on a warm summer evening, eyeing up the tottie heading for the local pubs and giving it a good fistful on the lanes:thumbup: Happy days!

Those were the days spud'.......now I heave myself off the Blackbird cursing my dodgy back then spend 10 minutes trying not to walk crab like :001_rolleyes:

  15. 250 X7.......that takes me back:thumbup:

I loved that bike...........I really was (in my mind) king of the road :001_smile:, I would get up at 6.30 just to go for a ride for an hour or so before work! It was one of those times in my life I'll never forget, very fond memories.
