I am using 3/8 lo pro stihl pmx chain as it came out the box not resharpened yet

I guess it comes down to reading threads on here and taking it in And obviously buying good stuff off Rob d I am very pleased with the results so far and quite surprised at how fast it cut was probably sub 3 mins a board at over 10ft and 22"-25" wide

Had a go today Ran out of time but as it's all set up it won't take long to cut some more slabs now the set up took quite some time but each cut was very quick much faster than I expected

I have got a 36" GB low pro bar and chain along with the required sprockets also got some of the safe edge files for my standard chain he was out of stock for the lo pro size Not had chance to make any cuts yet but got all the stuff

Put my order in with Rob today so hopefully I can be making planks at the end of the week I have access to some more oak now but I don't think it is anything like as good I can have the trunk but it's bent it may be ok to make some small boards for something else

I agree that used saws seem to make too much money and that's why I jumped on this when I saw it I will get a set of rubber pipes for it and a carb kit and give it a service and see if that makes a diference but i am happy with the purchase on the whole as the saw runs top notch just needs the H out a bit far

Well I am not getting anywhere with the 026 so I think it's time some one else had it It starts up straight away as it should and runs lovely just lacks grunt will tick over all day and doesn't big when throttled so some one who doesn't know any better will be happy On another note I have tach ed the 036 and it was screaming pulling 15.5k and only slowing down to 12.5 -13 In the cut any how i gave it a tune Low idle seems happest at 1 turn exactly as per factory but to get the rpm down it needed 1 3/4 out on the H I hope this s not an indication of a problem now pulls about 10k in the cut and 4 strokes niceley out of it the plug is not grey but not as perfectly tan as i would like so i am going to give it some more work and recheck it

You may be right and the original top end may have just been worn out hence the same lack lustre performance I will look at the coil tomorrow and go over the wires with a fine tooth comb maybe even swap the 036 coil on and try that if it still doesn't perform then I will look out for an original top end for it or move it on on eBay and pick up another as I still want a smaller saw for the little stuff I am also in the look out for a 088 880 for milling and really big stuff just to complete the package and hopefully the addiction will be satisfied by then

Well I got home last night and grabbed an hour or 2 so New to me saw had been delivered and it looks tidy don't think it has done much bar has hardly any wear and chain looks virtually new so far so good Before I went away I bought a draper compression tester so I tested both saws 026 old saw farmertech top end 145 psi 036 new to me 180psi Put some fresh gas in and topped the bar oil up and gave it a try Wow this saw has some grunt runs spot on will check plug colour some time during the week when I do some logging and adjust carb if necessary So that's £100 plus post well spent So I need to look at this 026 coil maybe tomorrow's job

I think the coil is genuine original but not sure as I said before though I am away until the weekend so cannot do anything Is the 036 coil the same as the 026 If the new saw comes and runs great then I can swap them over and try that

The oiler seems spot on i have set it on high output and it does send plenty out The tank was cleaned while it was off it may not be surgically clean but it wasn't bad The carb has been apart again a few times to check things and looks clean still I have noticed some wear on the wires but they don't look like the insulation is breached and when I put the coil back on I gapped it with a business card You may have something with the coil as my tach kept acting weird with fluctuating no.s I just put it down to me not wrapping the induction wire very well on the HT lead as I could get steady reading some times

Thanks for taking the time to reply Yes the saw does behave just like it always did with the original pot on before it died (possibly my fault trying too hard with tuning to make it right possibly split fuel pipe) that is why I think it could be something else The 251 is basicaly a brand new saw if its had 5 tanks through it I would be surprised yes I think it runs a bit rich too its as it came from the factory The chain on my saw is as new and the saw was the same when it was new untouched i have probably sharpened it a couple of times thats all I did try and compression test but the tester had been repaired with a jubilee clip instead of the proper swaged end and wouldn't hold over 90 psi I have bought a new tester but won t be able to test until next weekend as I am away On another note I have just bought a 036 for £100 supposed to be perfect runner I checked eBay and it had just been listed with that as bin so I clicked it before anyone else could think it was lucky timing or I may have another problem saw lol

Just seen on L&S engineering £110 for genuine cylinder and piston kit a lot cheaper than I thought although it's out of stock If I can't get anywhere with this saw then I will either go genuine or sell it and buy another

I have got a tach and it pulls 13200 ish no load 2000 tick over not tried in the cut Off to brother in laws tomorrow and I think he has a compression tester so will see what it says Have been doing a bit of reading about air filters and how poor the aftermarket ones are so may try it without one and see how it runs just process of elimination and all that as I think the filter that came with the saw is non genuine and thats on the saw now as the new one trapped the fuel pipe and prevented starting
