  1. Sorry I forgot to add; the decision notice was issued 1 day before 6 week period expired. So now an application to fell will be required before the TPO is confirmed?
  2. From the decision notice in response to my notification of works in a CA ( 1) T2 (Birch) is a large and prominent tree within the Woburn Sands Conservation Area. However, it is noted that the tree is in decline. In order to be able to enforce replacement planting following felling of the tree, a Tree Preservation Order shall be placed on the tree. There are no objections to the proposal to fell T1 (Apple)
  3. Can anyone help please? Is there a general set of rules that an LPA / TO are following when deciding on the merit of a tree. The reason I ask is that I had given notice to fell a Silver Birch in a conservation area that has decay in the upper crown caused by the central leader breaking out at some point in the past. The tree now has 3 very large leaders about 40ft up growing from weak and rotting timber and is situated at the very front of the property and over-hanging a main road. In response the LPA has said they are issuing a TPO, not because the tree is worthy preservation ( they have put in writing that consent will be given to fell) but to ensure they have the legal position to enforce the re-planting of a similar specimen. If the tree is of such a condition that it can be felled how can it be classed as having "amenity value"? The client had already expressed to the LPA that they would re-plant. As it is not a condition to re-plant trees in a CA can the LPA use a TPO (illegaly?) to enforce it?
  4. Experienced climber/ Groundsman or Trainee required to fill a foreseen 3-6 month absence, on a Full time or casual basis. Proven track record, experience and tickets required for a climber; not as important for Groundman or Trainee as on the job training will be given. Work ethic and ability to get yourself to the yard at start of day is essential. Full driving license (with towing) would be an advantage. but not essential. Pay is dependant upon age and experience and open to negotiation. I fully expect the position to become Full time permanent upon return of the absentee. CV please or brief email detailing experience and earnings expection to [email protected]
  5. There are no other branches to crown lift. the trees are all heavily one sided and all have planned works to try to reduce the leverage and balance the crowns. It looks like British waterways or whoever managed canals before may have cleaned off all of the limbs over the canal.
  6. I cant make a standard pruning cut back to the collar because the tear goes into the trunk. With the limb removed we can see that wood decay has already set in which caused the limb to fail. I think the whole thing is going but thanks for the input
  7. Bit of professional advice please. One of the 80ft grey poplars had an overly extended lower horizontal limb. This was already scheduled in for a reduction to reduce leverage but has unfortunately broken out, tearing into the trunk beyond the collar. A clean prune of the damaged limb cannot made. Should the tree therefore be pruned back to "Good wood" effectively felling it? I'm not a fan of grey poplars and find they deteriorate and rot very quickly
  8. Hi All any ideas please. Saw starts and runs as normal but when I switch back to "0" to turn it off the saw continues to run. I have to choke the saw to make it cut out. Then I have the ball ache of starting it again I opened the handle thinking it meant the switch was just not breaking contact when switched off but it seems a bit backwards and looks like moving switch to "0" actually makes a circuit to kill the saw?? The saw does warm start with the switch in "0" position cheers
  9. Silly question maybe but all of my work is usually domestic where I'm familiar with legal status of trees. I've been approached by a smallholder who has 3 large chestnut trees in a field and an Ash in the hedgerow that they want removed. There is nothing wrong with the trees. It is the landowners decision that he just wants rid of them. Whilst i'm not keen on felling healthy trees for the sake of it if I don't then it is only business going elsewhere. The owner seemed to think there was some general prohibition against removing trees in the countryside and that they could only be pollarded. Not something I have heard of but just wanted some advice. Cheers
  10. thanks but berries look nothing like. Berries on my species are in a hanging cluster
  11. I thought this would be easy to identify from the berries alone but I can find nothing that looks like it in either of my tree books. It has furry catkin type bud, bright red berries hanging in clusters breaking out of black husks. Any ideas please?
