  1. Hi there, I'm just in the process of applying for an Apprentice Forest Craftsperson position, and want to get a bit of a head start. The position will lead to a Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Trees & Timber – General Woodland & Forestry tree Work (NPTC or C&G awarded). My question is......... although I'm guessing a lot of the learning will be hands on, is there anything like a textbook or "Introduction to Forestry" type book that would be useful for a beginner? Other than spending a lot of time in the woods, and enjoying the outdoors, I don't know a great deal about forestry, so I thought if I could get some reading done ahead of filling in my application, I might give myself a better chance of getting selected. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Ian
