  1. thanks for the advice, looking at tinterweb now, coffee in mug, long night ahead, up early!
  2. it would be great to find a solution with out a trailer, but sure there is one?!
  3. Logit, that's a great idea! Just had a look at their website and sent an enquiry. Might have to sell the cat though! Does look like my best option. I'm trying to now find out what the maximum payload that is allowed. I can see the trailer can take 2200kg, load capacity which is great. At the show what did they have it linked up to?
  4. Hello knowledgable folk, I am wondered if anyone knows a vehicle that could deliver 6 x 1m3 seasoned logs? I deliver into London, don't have a licence for 7.5 tonne truck. Looking at a Ford pick up L4, that is the 13 foot length one, with small crane. With everything that can be aluminium, it brings the payload up to 1303kg, then have to deduct the weight.. Does anyone know if there is another solution? I need to go on M25, so unimog is out of the question? If bag of dried logs is 250kg (agreed??!), then I need 1500kg payload. Should I be looking at a shorter flat bed and stacking 2 bags on top of the 4 on the flat bed? If there is any of you guys and gals who can help please let me know, looking forward to some help! Cheers:001_rolleyes:
  5. thanks for your help, very kind. Most of it is very straight, so would be good. I would make sure that all the round wood that was sent would be very straight. I know of some that don't have weighbridge. I am a novice, can I check the weigh link is used how, from what I know this little?!
  6. I wonder what price would be for chip in and around Surrey? Any thoughts?
  7. thanks, that's really usefull to know prices in wales. We are based near Surrey. I am thinking larger diameters to the Mill (if they don't have too much!) Then rest to logs. Great stuff, many thanks.
  8. .......forgot to ask that is it common to need a weighing ticket to show the weight, or ust good enough to load onto the haulage and take there, so for example a 26 tonne load? Cheers
  9. Thanks for replying, I know but there is a lot of it, which I might be getting for a good price, due to some connections, which might help go towards the extra cone splitter I would need to get. I was thinking of using the larger diameters to go to the saw mill and then the rest to turn into firewood perhaps. I will be getting a posch 360 to split wood in the round and that goes up to 35cm diameter. So the more I think about what you say, saw mill seems to be the best choice. Thanks again,
  10. Good advice, thanks. I was thinking of maximising the load to the mills to save transport costs. You say that larger diameters can be a limiting factor, so I will bare that in mind when I speak to them. I will ask what diameters they are looking for. Am I thinking of the right route, saw mills or direct to a fencing manufacturer perhaps? Thanks again!
  11. Hi there, thanks for your reply. I have a feeling I might have got that wrong from what your saying? What would you say? Thinking about it there could be a lot more?
  12. Hi all, I will soon have around 250 tonne of larch, which I am buying with a standing price, very straight and if we could plank it, does anyone know if we did this how long we should air dry it for before selling it, what the ideal, 1 year or 2 years? I read above ship builders pay well for it, does anyone know what are the idea lengths, thickness and sizes? Also does anyone know what it could be sold for if it were in the round, seasoned for 1 year before I would have it delivered. I'm thinking of contacting local sawmills near me, but would be great to have some opinions and ideas of what prices I could sell it to saw mills, I would love to know! I know it is commonly used for construction, but I'm trying to work out if its better to turn into firewood for my business, or sell it in the round to the sawmills. Average diameter is 50cm -100cm diameter, about 60 trees, around 80-90 feet high. Thanks in advance!
