  1. What!? In this day of scientific and medical achievement where practically everything is replaceable 63 is barely middle aged!

Don't go thinking that just because you remember a time when you could buy a house for ten shillings and shooting Germans was a sport that it gives you the right to retire, talk about how it was in "your day" and start drinking bitter!

Get back up them trees young man!

    Hahaha 😂😂

Now I feel overweight though 😳

  2. Stripped it down at lunchtime and found the problem. He'd had the exhaust off to free up some starting cord stuck in the exhaust port. He didn't put the exhaust gasket back in and it was left rattling about. He got off pretty lucky with only damaging the flywheel I reckon.

  3. One of the climbers I work with sometimes was using his saw up a tree today when it started making a racket. He came out the tree took the starter casing off and all the flywheel fins apart from 3 were off. Some of them are jammed in the side of the cylinder. Anyone else had this happen to them or know of it happening? Cheers

  4. Undo the nut till it's flush with the crank, hold the saw up by the fly wheel with your fingers and give it a sharp smack with a mallet or something similar. I used a copper hammer. A screwdriver or something wedged behind the wheel would be handy too.

  5. Thanks spud. Definitely not the decomp valve and the seals went in nicely. It was much easier to take the old ones out and put new ones in than I thought it was going to be. I'll go for a new impulse line and manifold next. They're old and will probably need replaced anyway. Aye the good guy at the local fixers said he'll pressure and vac test it for me if I'm still having problems.

  6. So I pulled an old 440 out the shed the other day and put new crank seals in it. I didn't think this would solve the problem and it hasn't. It's racing on and then dying after revving. I haven't checked the manifold and impulse line yet but should that be my next port of call. Oh, cylinder head bearings are tight.

  7. I'd go for the echo 620 too. Had it out on demo a few weeks ago and used it for some thinnings and big blown beech. I was very impressed. For you it'd be ideal I reckon. Cheap too. And you'll get a 5 year warranty! 👍

  8. From some ebay listings, they are quoting the same part for all 044/046/MS460 models and I believe they all match but don't have my parts lists with me!

Thanks spud. That's what I was thinking, just wanted to check. I acquired a 460 from an old pal this morning in exchange for a case of cider. Even with a burst fuel tank I reckon that's a steal.

  9. Hope Steve doesn't mind I step a bit on his thread here:

If anyone is interested in my Mastermind ported 044 with PNW wrap and high output oiler and high output clutch cover, let me know. I got a lot of stuff going on on the farm here, and I am going to need some cash soon. She needs a new carb, but is otherwise in great condition, pushing over 210 psi as is.

    Cheers,

    Wes

Oh I'm interested, just can't afford it :(
