1. As mark skyland said as a Royal Mail account customer the postal services are liable to VAT , which then obviously has to be passed on to the customer , see the following from the Royal Mail website

Changes to VAT rules and the way in which our products are regulated have affected the VAT status of a number of our products.

A summary of the main products affected is shown later on this page.

Universal services (USO) such as 1st and 2nd Class stamps will continue to be VAT exempt. A list of products that will remain VAT exempt is also shown later on this page.

Many business customers can reclaim VAT. If your business is registered for VAT, and sells taxable goods or services, then as a general rule, you will be able to recover the VAT in the normal way on your VAT return. For professional advice, talk to your Finance department, accountant or tax advisor. You can also find more information on VAT at the HMRC website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat (new window). 2. I have seen 2 MS261's with damaged cranks , cranks were visibly worn down where the bearing ran & drum not running oil pumps due to excessive slack , new drum and bearing only a temporary cure as wear excessive.

One repaired under warranty with new crank and components , one scrapped and replaced with different saw , just had one in this week that won't idle so will be looking @ clutch area firstly knowing what these saws are like

  3. As Gardenkit says the Aspen FRT oil exceeds highest JASO standard FD , the FD standard was established in the 1990,s .

As an Aspen service centre selling thousands of litres a year I know what I would put in my new saw , the quality of this fuel is fantastic, machines start very easily , run cleanly and should last much longer without the build up of carbon on cylinder , piston and exhaust components , this is especially important on Strato engines such as the Husky 550/560 and most new Stihl products , low grade oils cause excessive carbon buildup on piston causing rings to stick , also seen scoring on pistons along with this especially on Stihl blowers .

Simple answer use Aspen or High grade JASO FD or above 2T oil if you wish to run pump fuel

  4. Its a great visit Neil is it not? Very informative.

Also so great to see that the Swedish machinery users use virtually nothing but Aspen.

When I asked a customer in a machinery shop there why he prefered Aspen to petrol he was amazed and asked me why I would even think of using petrol.

Really good visiting the Aspen factory Barrie to see how it's made and the quality controls that are in place from the port where the raw alkylate comes in off the tanker through to the finished product , gives me as a fellow Aspen service centre even more confidence when selling this fuel.

Great talk from their chemists where we learnt even more about Aspen and pump fuels.

Dealer visits were interesting apparently 60% of the fuel buying public / pros use Alkylate fuels , Aspen being the leading brand , is even available in DIY superstores.

  5. Looking to try out some of the ethanol free aspen fuel. Been using the husqvarna XP oil along with regular unleaded but as its rich in ethanol can cause issues with the 550XP. Husky tech said to use high octane fuel. Seen the aspen 2 50:1 ready mix and the aspen 4 fuel needing to be mixed with a decent synthetic oil. Can anyone give me their thoughts? Cheers

AllyH we have a customer with both a 550XP & 560XP he has run from new exclusively on Aspen2 he experiences none of the issues other people have with the autotune saws.

The oil in Aspen2 exceeds the current highest rating of JASO FD .

It produces no measurable ash in 1L of burnt oil.

Some people dislike the smell , however it has been proven that when an engine that has previously operated using regular 2 stroke oil and pump fuel is switched to Aspen the emissions will initially be higher , this is because the old existing internal deposits are being cleansed from your engines internals thus causing an initial bad smell until they have gone .

    Hope this helps

  6. I use Aspen 4T and mix with Husky XP oil at 40:1, i prefer Huskys own oil witch is Jaso FD in classification, Aspen 2 stroke oil is "only" Jaso FC.

Apart from that, Husqvarna has, here in Denmark, just announced the coming of their "own" alkylate fuel, witch in the 2 stroke version is mixed with their own XP oil in 50:1 :thumbup1:

I am going to have to correct you there buddy "Aspen 2 oil exceeds JASO FD rating" , JASO FD is a 1990's spec oil as that's when the last official JASO testing was done on mopeds .

As there has been no JASO testing since the 90's FD is the highest official rating printed on oil packaging.

I have been to the Aspen factory in Sweden this year and learnt a lot from their chemist Ulf .

Their oil also produces no measurable ash when tested , they test this by burning 1L of oil in an oven then covering what's left over with acid , what's then left over is the ash that is dried and weighed .

This was tested against a premium brand low ash competitors oil.

Having seen and worked on engines running exclusively on Aspen 2 I can personally vouch for the internal cleanliness, all that's visible is a burn mark from the combustion flame front and an oily residue , this includes the exhaust port .

  7. Has it got the correct coil fitted?? , many Makita /Dolmar models have different versions of ignition coils for one model of saw , if the wrong one is fitted the timing can be radically different , been there myself with a DCS500 fitted a black coil rather than red , would not even try to start

  8. I wondered if anybody has a UK (or European even) source for Solo parts?

Had a look a while ago (not very successfully) but wondered if anybody had encountered any?

    Cheers!

  9. People are always asking how good aftermarket parts are. I had a MS660 in a few months back, the crank and piston were buggered. After discussion with the owner that the crank was around £250 we decided to go aftermarket.

It came back in a few days ago and was seized solid. A quick inspection showed the top end was good so pulled it and found the crank had split in two. I am currently splitting the cases and going to try another and see how it goes. Never seen this type of carnage before!

Nice job I don't trust any chinky bits after a couple of pot and piston failures very soon after rebuild

  10. wow - very impressive to get all the answers in one concise post

what would the advantages/disadvantages be of getting an oregon/sugihara bar over the stihl bar? :)

Oregon bar would be cheaper depending on spec i.e double guard , Sugi very long lasting and light plus look great (lightweight pro version)

  12. Hi Shaun your UM616 takes a special belt , it's called an SB40 , it measures 16.5mm x 9.5mm datum length 1016mm Honda part number is 22431-VD8-003

This differs from the standard 5/8" or 5L belt as these are 15.9mm across the top .

If you get stuck let me know as my supplier has stock

  13. If you want a new saw and will consider the usual bar nut system then I recommend a Dolmar PS 420 sc. This saw is a big leap forward in power, anti vibe, and build quality than the Stihl 230 ..IMO .Mine pictured is now run in and was easily capable of dealing with the timber you see it sitting on. AJS chainsaws...Shavey will sort you out and is a good chap to buy from.

I agree Sawchip Dolmar PS350SC or PS420SC , 350 comes with 3/8LP chain as against the .325LP on the 420 Myself or Shavey can supply with various bar and chain options .

The saws I supply come with a 3yr warranty

  14. Hi All, I've got a rattle inside the exhaust muffler on my 550xp.

Pretty certain its a baffle that has broken loose- don't understand why though.

Anyway, is it OK to keep cutting with? And can anyone on here source me a replacement?

Otherwise I'l donder down to my local dealership 20 miles away and order a new one.

This is what you need sold as "muffler kit" contains everything in the picture.

If you want one drop me a P/M and I can order one up for you .

  15. I have heard that these auto tune saws run much better on aspen and that on examples that had the hot starting issue , it's non existent on aspen .

We have a customer that runs a 550 & 560xp on aspen and never has any issues , after all it is the fuel that husky recommend themselves in the brochure .

  16. You need stihl bar part number 3005 000 4809 plus 3636 000 0050 pico micro chain

Picco duro chain is 3612 000 0050 (ebay item number 272353929140)

There would also be Sugihara & Oregon options for bars .

I have them all on the shelf , p/m if you want a price.

No carb adjustment needed Just replace cutting gear an use as normal.

  17. Neil do you have a website with prices on?

I hate having to ask the price for each particular item when browsing, I'll walk straight out of a shop with no prices (normally old fashioned hardware stores).

Website is currently under development , watch this space , can email over a complete price list if you send me a PM
