I have a horizontal handy logsplitter. have split about 10 cube so far and only one log not able to split so I cut it with the saw. Why spend hundreds more when a quick chainsaw cut sorts the problem. Mine has a stand and definately worth the 250 I paid for it.

Not exactly industrial scale growing. Good luck to them. Not pushers but a couple of hippy types going gorilla

How much wood are you needing? do you have the space for all that? how much do you burn a year? and where abouts are you?

I'm English(with some distant scots ancestors). I've lived in Scotland for over 15 years after moving from kent.

The difference that I see is this

Scottish are generally socialist.

South of England are tories

North of england become more socialist

the present system in the uk balancies itself over time swinginging from labour to tory

Labour spend it on social policies

tories cut the social spending and restore the financial system..rich become richer and poor get stuffed.

anyway it kinda works....unless your poor.

If scotland becomes independent then we are all stuffed in both countries.

Scotland will spend too much

England will be run by fat cats and the poor will be stuffed for ever.

Scotland will need to swing further to the right and england will need to learn to look after those in need and hold back the tories more.

Enough ranting.

burnt loads 5 years ago after splitting it. can be a little twisted, burns great.

I have fond memories of pruning a pear orchard in kent 20 years ago...enjoy. too far for me.

Just seen the pic. I treat it the same as nuisance phone calls. Just turn off and wouldn't buy it. same goes for pay day loans and casino ads and bingo ads etc etc etc. government should stop it and we would all be happier. well quite a few of us.

Oh and I suspect the op was looking for reactions and perhps was ready to explain why he said what he did.

anyway..how many split logs in a cube?

lots of logs going in the background..he could do with waving his finger like a chainsaw.

think I read that saw chippings should go through compost heap first as it robs nitrogen.

I keep adding my garden compost and some wood ash each year. We also use comfy tea(homegrown) during the year. and we don't grow the same crop in the same place 2 years running(except rhubarb and any other perennial crops(strawberries/blackberries)

sleety snow, not laying, mostly sideways as quite a breeze

I have an esse 200 and am happy with it. set up for multi fuel but only ever burnt wood. It's not connected to radiators though. I was told to keep away from cheap chinese ones as they can't take the heat..

Thanks I've spoken to cameron and have a quote for personal injury and public liability. As long as I'm not climbing trees.

I've been using my car to go and do my gardening jobs, sometimes carrying equipment. just neverv got around to looking into what extra insurance I would need. will be adding a trailer soon too.

as for chainsaw insurance, would I be able to get any as I have no tickets. Could I get some general gardening insurance that might cover me?

have 5 years experience just cutting for my own log burner, but have the possibilty of working on someone else's land cutting up blown trees....some large.

owner wants me to have insurance.

Starting out and need a bit more guidance from experienced guys.

Training wise what tickets would I need for the above type work?

New to this . I have assumed reading the threads that a cubic meter to the public is a cubic meter of loose logs cut to length and split to a suitable size for general burning in a stove or open fire. I have also assumed that these cubes are not tightly stacked but that the logs are thrown in randomly so lots of air space.

If however it was a cubic meter of wood then that is a whole different matter.

went for a walk in that wood today and you can see where a tractor has been in before. however its all grown over and looking natural again.

Sometimes it's just nice to stop and look and listen...especially in the countryside. Listen hard enough you'll probably hear a chainsaw and then remember why you're there. I bet some of the climbers enjoy a good view.

Remember, that's a calculation for total volume.

 

It doesn't account for wastage as the hoppus formula does.

also doesn't account for the gaps between each log.

cubic meter of wood isn't the same as a cubic meter of split logs.

as I'm sure you ae aware.

then Matty is gone and the birds will chill out and sing their songs. the muddy water will settle and the birds will use it to have a nice wash while smelling the bluebells lol

I'm looking forward to this year. Although my main business is gardening and a little driving(school run) I have started spending more time around trees. I'm not expecting to earn much making firewood as it will only be small and part time.

However I'm going to be spending some time in a fairly untouched bluebell wood that's mostly silver birch, just clearing up fallen trees and perhaps a little thinning. I can picture the scene, drinking coffee smelling bluebells ,listening to the birds and looking out over the scottish hills around me.... worth more than money can buy. Also have a few large trees that have fallen in the storms to clear, mainly big beech.

However I also have to look into all the paperwork/insurance/tax etc..but thats for the day that it's pizzing down.

seems that different size bags would sell for different amounts?

but what sells best?

are 50 x 80 too big for customers etc?

what size do people use? any reasons why?
