  1. Personally for 4k your not looking at a stunner , both timberwolf and green mech do a 5" petrol machine , use the 4k as a decent deposit and get something that works and won't let you down , it's all to easy to get a dud when your excited to be buying your first chipper and getting to the stage where your willing to compromise just to get a machine , when in that position of buying your first chipper every one says they won't but believe me you will be tempted

Thanks for the reply. But as I said before, unfortunately I will have to borrow the 4k anyway, it's not money I have hanging around. It really is a budget job. Cheers

  2. i think this arbtalk member was selling a kwick chip recently for under £4k I'm sure i seen a post but can't find it now. pm him and ask.

Robert, i had seen this kwick chip machine on ebay. Is it the same guy? Does anyone have a comments on the kwick chip systems. I have always leant towards the TW systems because of my lack of experience and they seem to be the top name.

  4. Probably been asked a thousand times before:001_tongue:

Any advice on what to look for with second hand wood chippers? After xmas if all goes well i shall be looking for a towable one and want to spend up to 4k. At this kind of money it seems to be ones that have reached the end of their life with amenity company's. Mechanically what should i look for and are there any makes that should be avoided.

    Cheers

  5. I have used the saw now and it worked very well with the 24" bar. I had modified the muffler and re-tuned also turned the oiler up. So at the moment very pleased! :)

  6. At the moment I have an oregon helmet and visor. I find that the mesh is too fine and when it rains the mesh clogs up with water. Can anyone recommend a system with a larger mesh aperture?

  8. Thanks Wyk. I will let you know how I get on. I will tune it tomorrow, then on Monday morning I have about 20-30 "ash" stumps that are around 24" tall to take down. Cheers

  9. Ok, So i have spent some money and fitted the 036 with a 24" bar new sproket and chain, modified the muffler and turned the oil pump all the way up. I have got hold of a stihl tacho and on saturday intend to do the tune up. My question is, has the stihl 036 got a rev limiter fitted? having read up on tuning and watched a few youtube videos, the technique is slightly different for each type of ignition system.

  10. I have picked up a Stihl 036 that i would like to turn into a stump cutting machine. I know its a 61cc machine but can i put a long bar on it (say around 30"). I have seen on forums that people have used 24" bars on it. What about if i did a home made "Skip" chain and ground some of the teeth off. Or is there a big bore kit for this saw that i can up the grunt? I know i could "port it" or have bought a bigger saw or do cuts from both sides, but i just want to check my options.

    Cheers

  11. If it's in little lumps and he is a mate I would be looking at getting £30 a ton you here people saying its worth X y or z if it was all 12 inch down straight it would be worth £50 a ton. I bet his face was a picture when you said 3k

Trouble is, he doesn't know, like me. I have since told him it's going to cost a lot less than I originally said. And he thanked me for my honesty. The other work I do for him is worth more than making a fast buck. Thanks for all the comments. Cheers Gary

  14. Some advice on price to charge please. I have 30 ton of ash that I have cut up into 100cm and 50cm lengths. These were mature trees! Trouble was, I had no where to store it. A friend offered me some space outside and he has a big wood burner. Kind of got me thinking that in the interest of cash flow, I could sell it off quick. Anyway I offered it to him for 3k. The wood will owe me about £900 by the time I have finished transporting it, including labour cost. The wood is green and round lengths of what I have stated and all ash. Is this too much or to little?

    Thanks Gary
