  1. As direct staff I can say it's fact. It has a lot to do with the staff, contractors and ground controls management systems. They are quite impressive.

On the whole a great team to be part of.

I'll pass your comments on to the Arb team. They'll be very happy to hear that!

  2. Yes but WHO HAS STAFFORDSHIRE??

Its between GC and Glendale, I think? I know we'll be covering Stoke/Telford/Shrewsbury/Tipton...

All I can say is ground control is the way forward.

Cheers! Can I ask why? Always good to hear people's opinions.

  3. Thanks for the overwhelming response, everybody. If you've contacted either myself or Emma but have not yet received the appropriate PQQ forms, they can now be downloaded directly from our website;

For teams also interested in our other divisions (Fencing, Landscape Construction, Pest Control, etc) please ensure that you use the Summer Maintenance form to provide your details.

  4. Ground Control Ltd is one of the UK.’s most established landscape solutions providers. To develop our “go-above-and-beyond” philosophy whilst ensuring that neighbourhoods flourish, we are looking to immediately expand our operation across the UK (particularly in the Oban, Aberdeen, Rothesay or Keswick areas) with the addition of several more field teams.

    If you are a smart and presentable grounds maintenance team of 2 or 3 operatives and you fit the following criteria, we would love to hear from you;

    • Have your own van and garden maintenance tools

    • Have solid experience with maintaining commercial gardens and/or recognised qualifications

    • Are business minded with a driven entrepreneurial desire who want to expand

    • Are available to take on additional work

An NPTC PA1 PA6a spraying certificate would also be an advantage, but not compulsory as training for this can be provided.

If you would like to be considered or would simply like to know more then please contact us on 01277 844545 / 01277 650697, email [email protected] / [email protected] or simply click the link below!

  5. Hi all, I'm 22 and all I have been thinking about for the last year is going alone. Now I have been in the industry for around 14 months now, climbing most days, I consider myself fairly capable of doing most trees, I'm not saying I'm mega! And may not be the quickest when it comes to the difficult ones but have learnt from the best, and I have got huge drive and ambition to become the best climber I can possibly be.

I have been saving and managed to get around 12k behind me now which I have to spend on chipper, equipment, also looking at landscaping too mowers etc would this be enough to set up a solid business?

Would I be able to subbie out to other companies etc if I was running my own business? Is this something that people do, or is it generally just subbie climbers that get majority of the work?

How do you approach potential clients for contracts? Is it a simple case of a letter and is there a list of jobs which go up for tender in certain places and you have to be approved contractors etc? I'm mainly thinking about the landscaping, grass cutting side of things here.

Also what age was you when you set up?

Shall I go for it, got no one to speak to about it and where better to go than here :)

Just after advice and wisdom from you guys

    Thanks

    Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

I've just sent you a PM about some opportunities for you. Really worth following it up if you're interested.

    Regards,

    Alex

  6. Congratulations.

Been browsing your website and couldn't see whether or not you were AAAC's? For such a large 'green services provider' does that have an impact on what arboricultural contracts you've been able to secure up to now?

Also noticed the recent 'advert' on here regarding setting up a team and providing a substantial sum of the finance towards it. Is this the norm across the company and how it has been able to expand so quickly in such a short period of time or solely as part of expanding the Arb side?

Thank you! The website is incredibly dated (last news article was from 2011 I think?) so may have some information missing. We're going to be launching a new one in the coming weeks so I'm sure it'll have information on all our accreditations and certifications then. Our Arb division was relatively small until the acquisition of UPM Tilhill a few years back, primarily piggy-backing on our GM division; since then its revenues have increased threefold through organic and strategic growth.

the financing opportunity is a new concept that was introduced by one of our new directors to help establish teams in strategic areas. We've done similar things in the past with our directly-employed maintenance staff, but never really offered it out to teams that are not already working under the Ground Control umbrella.

Its a really exciting time to be with the company right now, watching it transform from a small local company in a converted stable into this national behemoth operating from a purpose built office!

  7. Well done indeed.

How many employees do you have and how long have you been going for?

Been going since the 70's, but only in the past decade has it really expanded.

I'm not sure about numbers because there are several divisions (Grounds Maintenance, Arb Rail, Arb Utilities, Winter Maintenance, Fencing, Construction) but i'd estimate we're close to 1,000 full time employees now.

  8. i know its gonna seem like a lot of hot air, but i'm really proud to say that Ground Control have been named in London Stock Exchange's list of the fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK.

1000 Companies to Inspire Britain | London Stock Exchange Group

There were over 4.5 million applicants, so making it in the top 1000 (0.02%) is a real achievement, and a strong indicator of the companies ambitions over the coming years; particularly in the Arb sector.

  9. Hi ryan just taking a look back through this thread and noticed you work for ground control and the company im now working for actually do some work for you-anglia infrastructure

You're just down the road from our head office in Billericay, right?

  10. Hiya,

Does anyone use a mobile Debit/Credit card machine? If so does it work ok for you? I have been thinking about maybe getting a mobile pay as you go type of thing as I have heard some people talk about them. I appreciate they cost a bit but the small cost will be passed on to the customer. Im fed up with the usual "havnt got any cash at the mo" type of responce when it comes to payment after doing a job! Cheques are ok but by the time I have finnished work the bank is shut, its extra hassle and being a small business cashflow is important so would like a way of getting payment easier and not having to wait atleast 3 days for cheques to clear (normally more including weekends). Any ideas??

    Regards,

    Anthony.

What phone do you have, currently? There are portable payment devices that can be attached to your smartphone and used for card transactions. Theres no monthly subscription, just a small percentage taken from each transaction.

  11. Great videos Alex, i love the Arb one!

Will be singing the tune all day now.

Tell me about it... Have you seen the "Place Your Hands" music video, yet? We cant get it on YouTube because of license agreements etc, but its basically the MD dancing around the office to Reef.

The sort of thing that would go viral for all the wrong reasons!

    Nice video - very professional.

    Thanks, Paul.

We're just trying to get the name out there now, really. Every new employee has basically said the same thing; "how can no-one kow about a company that is so big?!"
