  1. Such a pity U down in Devon Brian, would offer you endless cups of tea and foodies to come help me build. Na, this chick is ex Africa, born in Rhodesia to British folks, and came scampering back here 12 yrs ago. When I figure out how to post a pic on here, will post my ultimate log store would simply die for!
  2. Done, and replied to you Tom. TA
  3. Ta Steve,
  4. wow, those gang nail plates dont come cheap do they
  5. Hiya Muttley, Okay, gang nails it is then. MUST be easier than screwing in dozens of screws to get the thing standing
  6. Hi all Looking to put in my winter stock of firewood, and would like quotes for between 4 to 6m3 of loose hardwood split logs. Delivery to Corby, Northants straight onto a brick paved driveway area besides the road. Anybody able to quote me please?
  7. Okay, lemmie try digest that ... and figure if this is a 2man build or a chick can manage alone. Think you would need someone to help hold things in place whilst screwing the pallets to one another, correct? Some scrap lumbar I got from a building site had these metal spiked plates that seemed to be tying the timbers together, could I use that? Band the walls together flat on the ground to side posts, then lift a whole wall and mount to pallet base, again with one of those handy plate things?
  8. But what about rotting on the bottoms? I originally thought banging wood onto pallet bases, but when the pallet rots, the whole shed needs replacing. The alternative was to dig holes and bed in 4x4 into concrete, but that's a lot of work, in a clay soil that I have !
  9. Those look good, easy too! Never seen crates like that around our area though, pallets yes. But when I looked at a pallet could not figure out how to tie them together end on end. But the image from Brian shows he dismantled the pallets to use, I think.
  10. Brian those look stunning! gone green this side of the screen. Care to share your plans for those stunners? Dimensions, how you tied it all together? I would love to have a go at making something like that, and can get pallets I think. Been offered a pile of them...
  11. LOL !! yup - it's now called a Holy shed!
  12. Thanks Bikewoo, that gives me something to work with regards volume to try and get a quote on. Anybody on here want to give me a quote to deliver seasoned hardwood logs, 4m3 to Corby, Northants?
  13. Gotcha Bikewoo. will have to take a pic of my and neighbours endeavours to post on here for you guys to giggle ova !
  14. Green with envy at your stockpile bikewoo.. So I dont need to worry about rain on the sides of the wood there getting wet? Can you tell me what amount of wood you have there in the pic? I have no concept of what a cord or m3 of wood is, and how much it would be to get in a load equal visually to what you got there. Sorry - downfall of someone who only burns wood and does not cut and handle it afraid
  15. Ahhh cool, that makes me feel better, ta Logbaron. Got holes, double doors on it will be open all day / night in good weather or closed when chucking it down, like today !
  16. A decent log store is in the planning, I have cleared a 3m x 2m side of the garden, and going to get a Saltbox style shed put up there, in time. however, right now, need to load up on wood for this season just round the corner, and bring in wet stuff to season for next year. By this time next year, hopefully, will have a pretty nice built log store, with hat and slatted sides on it. The shed is to ride me out for 1 or 2 seasons at the most. I was just wondering how many holes or slats to remove on it without colapsing the silly thing, and still get enough air to circulate in this damp weather we have.
  17. Bikewoo (luv the name by the way) Yup - dont care for the shed, inherited it with the house when bought and it is old and uncared for, on it's way out. Left of shed is wind facing side, back of shed 1 ft from garden wood fence, RT side open space, and front doors open to path and garden. I wanted to remove each alternating slat thoughout the shed, but neighbour helping me said shed would fall down! Besides he did not trust me with his drill and equipment, just cos I am a girl ! Hence the 2" holes all over as alternative. I intend on leaving doors open all the time, close only when raining. Okay, so if I removed alternating slats on the 2 large sides of the shed, should make it windy enough hopefully..
  18. Forgot to mention, I am residential area, so what ever I put up needs to have eye appeal afraid, not only for me but to stop any neighbours having a go...
  19. Woody, noooooo..... Considering I am 3/4 way through drilling holes in the garden shed already! I thought if I created enough venting it would work just as well as a simple lean to shed without walls on it, but actually better as had some side protection. You mean I need to cut a ton of holes to get away with this idea?
  20. Thanks Peatff I have been getting in green wood, and is usually rain wet as well and having to season it myself for a year, struggle to find decent fire wood here in Northants at reasonable prices last year had it in my garage and left both doors open as much as possible but still got lots of mould on them and was a bit worried about bringing in the mouldy stuff indoors in case putting some lethal toe rotting microbe or other into the house
  21. Hi all. Brand new on here, so greetings to all. I have a question. Wanted to build a nice log store, but costs of what I wanted are a bit high at the moment, so have opted to sabotage my garden shed inot temp log store. A standard T&G pitched roof shed you bung your lawn mower and junk into:biggrin: I am busy drilling 2" holes in the walls, around 8" apart. The questions is will this be sufficient to dry wood in, and store it without it going mouldy? Or should I literally pepper the walls with holes every inch apart? Comments and advice greatly appreciated, had my log burner for 2yrs now and love it, but struggling to stock sufficient wood for winter Hence the garden shed adaptation TA
