  1. yeah that's what my plan is. I took a maple down today and the guy I work for was shouting and jumping up and down that I was too slow. Maybe I do check and double check too many times but I'm not keen on falling out the tree. The idiot also put my climbing rope through the chipper which unsettled me a bit!!!
  2. I've got my assessments on Thursday, feeling OK about it just worried I'm a bit slow!!

    Holidays!

yeah its a tricky one, i could easily end up with no work. That is what is keeping me where i am and I know that he has plenty of work in the pipeline. Is that enough though to put up with the low wage and the constant threat that if its not done his way ie no holidays he will just replace me?

    Holidays!

great your all saying what I was thinking, I'm going to book a holiday and call his bluff. I'll get in contact with a few other companies round here too see if they have any work going that could be better. I contacted some last year but as i had no tickets our experience they didnt want to know really. Thats why i feel i have some loyalty to the current guy i work for he was the only person willing to give me a try but he is starting to take too much now i think. cheers for you opinions everyone

    Holidays!

Been working for about a year now, started brash dragging and chipping. saved up got my cs30/31 wasn't easy on the low wage!! now I'm starting on climbing. I love this job!! but I want time off too!! the days are long about 12 hours and i get £65 a day. everytime I talk about time off i get told i can but i will be replaced and my job might not be there for me when I'm back. Is this typical to the industry? I'm tempted to call the bosses bluff and have some time off. Just wondering what peoples thoughts are, should i just be happy that i have some work and get on with it or are there better people to work with? And a final question, is college a good idea? or stick with on the job training?
  9. Passed!!! wahoo!!!
  10. well after 7 months of dragging brash about and loading the chipper I've finally saved up enough money to get my chainsaw tickets! wahoo! Absolutely loved my weeks training on the chainsaw and feeling confident that I can pass the assessment, still little worried I might fail!! Does anybody else think that the wages we earn is too low compared to the cost in gaining all the CS tickets?
  11. I wish I had found people like you to employ me!! Currently on minimum wage and having to pay for all my own training. While on my training courses I don't get paid and I'm not even guaranteed to get 5 days work every week!! its all a lot of hardwork but I love the job hopefully as I gain experience and CS tickets I will be able to find a better employer!!
