I'm relatively new to the game but after lots of research into footwear I eventually went for a brand new pair of Meindl Airstreams, this was about 6 months ago. I started working for a small tree surgery business up in North Devon in August and have been since and loving it!
My problem is with the boots sole's-they are so slippery I feel like I am taking my life in my hands whenever there are wet drain covers, wet wood to walk over, cobbles (I am in Clovelly quite often), or any hard wet surfaces. Now, I am getting to the stage where my boss would like to start me climbing-I can't even imagine climbing a wet tree with these boots on-it would be suicidal!!!
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I think the sole's are just to hard and thick
I'm gonna sell them and get some Eltens I think, so if anyone would like a decent pair of Meindl Airstreams size 8 let me know!

Thanks for all those replies, friendly forum this
The airstreams are the red ones, yes? They look a bit garish n a bit expensive-where's the best place to buy this kind of thing? I live in Cornwall
I want type C trousers as they have protection all the way around and I will be looking to begin my climbing as soon as I feel I have gained enough experience on the ground
Cheers!

Hi everyone!
I passed my CS30 and CS31 on Monday and really excited about starting work on the trees as soon as possible
I have a few questions, mainly about boots but about PPE in general if you be so kind?!
I have a plan for the end of the summer to cycle around Europe volunteering on WWOOF (worldwide oppotunities on organic farms) to get some experience on sustainable building etc, I would need some good, waterproof, lightweight working boots. I would also need them to be OK for hiking and of course Chainsaw approved. I like the sound of the Haix Protector Lights but they're not waterproof? Does anyone have any experience of these or recommendations? I'm looking around the £150 mark...
Also, what are a good pair of trousers? Ideally I want type C class 2 minimum, below £100...
Thanks in advance, so glad to be on my way to becoming an arborist

Hmmmm, yeah I thought they'd have worn in by now (worn most days up to 10 hours, for almost 5 months) that's why I've carried on with them-final straw was actually slipping over on the cobbles walking down into Clovelly though! Maybe their just not for me, they're also super heavy IMO.
My boss has used Eltens for years and says they are super comfy, am gonna try his sons pair and see how I feel in them.
Ta for all the feedback, guess it's each to their own!!!
