    Thanks guys, very helpful. As I don’t have a suitable vehicle to bolt/attach things to (that’s on my list!), I’m thinking the vice on ply will be easiest to chuck in the back of the car. However, I’ve just been given the idea of bolting a vice to a metal toolbox, so will see how that turns out.

    Thanks for this. Like the sound of the vice on ply as could also clamp this to a workbench back home. What's a log ring?

    Can anyone recommend a portable vice for use when hedging,i.e. where there might not be a big stump/log to jam it in?
