Hi. This tulip tree is almost completely ring barked, looks like insect damage. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi. I am about to start storing my logs before selling in a greenhouse, I have been storing them so far outside in vented bags. Going forward could I get away with normal ton bags? Or would vented be better letting them breathe? Just trying to save money, but if it makes a difference I'll go with vented. Thought? Cheers

Yeah we generally have 1 guy who will ride the chains for most of the pics, unless the climber can easily get the hooks set. This massively increases the efficiency, if the guys on the ground arnt keeping up then we will do a few pics without the guy on the chains and he helps on the ground for a bit. Works really well for us.

When you say increases the risk, I understand what your saying overall. For us the guy on the chains is always an experienced climber and knows all aspects of the job, we generally take turns to do the cutting or the chains. We have a good team and always use the same crane driver so everyone knows whats going on. Im not saying there is no risk, or that anyone should do this, but for us its really good.As long as u get the balance right on each piece there should be no problems,

There is no planting directly as a result of that tree removal but there is always something going on, check out http://www.trees.gg, the website for the Guernsey men of the trees for more info!

Yes lots of work with cranes, I'm not sure how it is in the uk, but I guess it much more practical and cost efficient for using large cranes over here regularly as they never have too far to go, no motorways etc.

Hi again

This pine tree was termed ‘dangerous’ by the states of guernseys environment department, who contracted us for the job, a lot of trees over here were made unsafe when we had some crazy weather earlier in the year and had 8ft snow drifts, which in Guernsey is unheard of! There were hundreds of trees down not able to stand up to the unexpected snow and emergency call outs every 5 mins, this tree was also damaged at the time losing about a 3rd of its crown. And with the unpredictability of Monterey pines when they get to maturity over here, and the location of this pine in particular, they decided to remove it, expecting that next winter if there are some severe storms any failing will be over the road. It is over the main commuter route into town and there are others in the vicinity whichwe will hopefully keep for a long time. And there are also some which have been lost already.

Here is a photo, I didn’t get any better ones im afraid, and much of the video was unusable due to the weather.

Snapped a small caritool with an 88 clipped into it and stepped down a step spiking and it broke, gave me a jolt!

Head cam video of our most interesting job last week, nice crane job, but one of the branches went to close to the boom as the operator was lifting it round to the chipper, resulted in a small wire snapping which tells the crane how much of the boom is out, or something.... anyway we tried to fix it ourselves with a bit of improvising, but in the end it just made the day even longer!
