Nick, have you gone for a gasifying boiler, if so which kind? Built in water tank, do you mean a tank for domestic hot water inside the buffer tank at the top?

Right, cheers.

1 day too late but 10 year old pine trees? Is that not ideal Xmas trees? I'm sure the tree I borrowed this year was around that age. Maybe think about it for next November.

You could use a Trewhella clamp shackled to a nylon strop to choker the tree. This will take up to 12mm steel rope and the rope can be set to any length you want. We often use 10mm steel rope while pulling over big edge trees skylining. If you're not sure, batter in a couple of wedges even a 10 tonne bottle jack would surprise you what it'd put over on its own! A combination of 2 or 3 of these systems should pretty much guarantee any tree to go the right way.

Get an old tractor and Timbermaster winch for next to nothing, 2 guys cutting short wood then extracting. No need for harvester or horse, uses bugger all diesel and good living to be made if you have a good head and are willing to graft!

Just tried greenbuildingforum and as they wanted paying before any posts were submitted thought I'd give it a miss, any other suggestions?

Thanks, will have a look.

Hello, I will be Installing a new log gasifying boiler system in 2013 and would like to hear from users of top and lower end boilers/tanks. I'm looking at installing a 25kw boiler connected to a 1500 litre accumulator with domestic water and solar coil in an unvented system. Has anyone experience of the ETA boilers? I know they have a good reputation and long warranty period, but is the extra few thousand pounds worth it when I have a free wood supply? I'm also looking at the Kotly Orlan boiler (sold in uk as Eco Angus Super, the green model). Has anyone had any issues with these, especially as its the cheaper version with thinner boiler steel? The same question goes for tanks, is the extra warranty and solar baffle of the Akvaterm tanks worth more than twice the price tag of cheaper versions of similar spec in anyone's eyes? Any comments would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Transit with Hiab

Hi pal, I have one of these exact same as picture but a single cab. Same hiab on same side. Will lift a tonne close in, about 300-400kg full reach. Great bit of kit, I replaced a transit tipper as I used to sell loose logs but now sell by the cubic metre bag. Can get 5 bags on at a bit of a squeeze, 4 comfortably. However, I got taken to the weigh bridge by the cops a few weeks ago with 5 softwood on and weighed 4100kg. Logs were 25%mc but had been raining overnight. Would get away with 4, still overweight but allowed 10%. Green hardwood kills it I'm afraid! I reckon the payload is slightly over a tonne but will need to check again at the bridge.
