  1. I am delighted to let you all know that I collected my repaired chainsaw this morning from my local Husqvarna dealer in Montbron. With a new chain brake fitted it works a treat. Top tip - chainsaws work much better when not trying to run them with the brake on Thanks again for everyone on this forum for your help and advice - undoubtedly the friendliest and most helpful forum I have ever been on. People like me who have zero practical ability often get all sorts of unhelpful sarcasm thrown at us when going on these forums for a little guidance. So thank you and Merry Christmas:beerchug:
  2. A helpful AND multiligual site - love it! Donation made - thank you all
  3. Bugger I guess that is caused by my failure to put the bar on correctly in the first place rather than any fundamental flaw in a month old machine? (i.e. not a warranty claim) I feel a trip to my local Husqvarna dealer coming on for a repair. I'll have to work out the French for "my brake band is knackered". Once again, thanks for all your help - is this the charity that you would like me to donate to: The Children's Trust provides care, education & rehabilitation to disabled children Merci mes amis
  4. Might help if I attached the photos!!!
  5. Morning guys! Just been having a closer inspection of the cover. I've managed to get some better close up shots which hopefully will help with the diagnosis. I have to say that it looks to me like something has broken on the brake band, probably as a result of my own ineptitude when doing the original putting together What's the verdict? By the way, I will be delighted to make a contribution to a charity of your choice, you have all been so helpful and I have to say this seems to be a really friendly forum which makes a change
  6. It makes sense to read it, proof will be when I try it tomorrow Thank you for all your help
  7. Thanks Rich2484, you have been a great help. It is dark here now so I'll give it a go tomorrow morning, I like your idea about taking away the bar and chain and just playing around with fitting the cover to see how it all fits together. I'll let you know how I get on!
  8. I'm a novice with this so can you give me an idiots guide to what you are suggesting please? I am assuming that the 'brake band' being referred to is the circular band on the inside of the cover? Is that designed to sit around the outside of the clutch? What does Stubby mean when he refers to the brake pawl? Do you have any photos that would help me?
  9. It's not a very sharp photo but is this what you meant?
  10. By the way, yes it is a Carlton K1 chain in the picture - I'm impressed!
  11. I've changed the chain to the original Husqvarna one that came with the saw (along with two spares, one of which is the one you can see in the photos and is indeed looks different). Same issue I'm afraid - as soon as I tighten the bar nut, the chain won't turn - if I loosen it just enough so that the chain will turn, then I can see the bar nut starting to come loose as I rev the saw
  12. Thanks for all the comments. I have refitted the chain following the various suggestions but as soon as I get the bar nut tight and the chain tension right, the chain will not move. I have to slacken off the bar nut to get it to move. I have attached some photos so perhaps someone can spot what I'm doing wrong or if there is something fundamentally wrong with the saw.
  13. I recently bought a brand new Husqvarna 435 from an online dealer in France where I live. I use the saw for cutting logs in the wood, no felling, mainly already fallen trees or existing logs that are too long for the wood burner. I have a problem but am getting no response either from the dealer or from Husqvarna support. I find that if I tighten the single bar nut too much, the chain will not run as it gets clamped too tightly by the clutch cover. I therefore have to loosen the bar nut until the chain will run. Is that right or am I doing something wrong in fitting the bar and chain? Once running, after the saw is well warmed through and I have a few logs cut, the bar nut begins to rotate due to vibration and becomes so loose that the bar sags and the chain comes off. Too dangerous for my liking! Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone suggest a solution for me? Thanks
