It is a hard industry to break into especially offshore if you don't have a relavant trade ie welding or pipe fitter. There is jobs out there for greenhorns most arborists will get a start with geotechnical rope access companies to get some hours under your belt and get the ball moving,I sent my cv out and had a job the same week, I have never looked back, now find myself abseiling of railway viaducts, installing and rigging large 2 ton overhead line stands or coring and installing steel anchors for reinforcing the bridge. The rope works good and the moneys in a different level to Tree surgery. £230-250 a day For a level 3 and £320-400 offshore a day so thats what I am working towards, sitting my level 2 by November, Don't get me wrong a still find myself doing some big dismantles and its great be back amongst the sticks but money speaks volumes.

I am heading over Melbourne next year on a working hoilday visa with the gf,then hopefuly onto New zealand for year after that, but would love take my kit with us to apply for some sub contacting positions. Av heard it can be pretty costly get ur saws through quarantine as they have be emmaculate clean:( customs digging there heels in!

I did know there was duesta present but never really realised the severity of it. It was open grown canopy sycamore with no nearby tree anchor onto. No Mewp access available. There's another sycamore for 2morrows job with the same fungal decay in same working area. But your right what u say possibly should have gave the tree second thoughts.

Hey folks was wondering if anyone had heard about applying for a work based diploma in arboriculture through buildup of nptc credits? A have almost all apart from multiple wind blow and pollarding. A don't have any degree background in arb but all practical nptcs. I Have been looking work in Australia /New Zealand on working visa and would like put something on ma cv that is recognised there have read a lot threads that nptcs and hardworking are overshadowed by predominately non practical arb qualifications any advice be appreciated.

Melbourne Australia Arborist/ Irata level 2

Well am off to Melbourne June 24th, I Was just wondering if theres any lads working out there on this at moment? if they have any contacts or companies worth contacting, Although am off on working holiday visa with the misses so I have flexibility to travel within Aussie wherever work is.I have predominately been working as rope access technician/rigger of late in wide in a variety of Irata rope access work mainly Masonry Viaduct core drilling works, but I am open of making a return to the Arb industry down under. My background has been commercial Arb a lot of rigging work and dismantling, pruning, section felling and was a lead climber on the Railway subcontracting. I have experience of working next to overheads electricity lines, but don't hold any utility quals. I am going keep my saws back home, but thinking of taking my Petzl chest attachment and croll harness, compatible for both tree climbing and Irata, I will buy some new kit to take with me but will take little gear, has anyone got previous off making this transition and has any advice? I am flying with ETIHAD airways And only have 30 kg main luggage and 10 kg hand luggage so a pretty limited for kit to take with me. Any feedback is feedback CHEERS guys.
I also might drop by New Zealand on my travels.
