  1. Hi all

I have just enrolled on my ABC Level 2 Award through HCC with the idea of converting it to my RFS Level 2 once completed.

Whilst I have studied a diploma in Countryside Management to Level 3 Extended standard I am still very much a beginner when it comes to general arboricultural knowledge.

Whilst I am know the portfolio contains recommended reading are there any staples "nuts and bolts" books for beginners who need to start at an entry level when it comes to the arb side?

I have had a good look around the forum and online but a lot of the info seems to be more relevant to the Level 3/4 side of things.

Thanks for reading and any help offered :001_smile:

  2. Hi guys

I am looking at the C+G Level 3 Arb course at Sparsholt College and was wondering whether anyone had any experience, either of the specific course of the college, will be getting in touch with them to sort out the open day but was wondering if any of you guys had done any training with them.

Any advice or opinions woud be much appreciated, thanks for reading :001_smile:

  3. Was recommended you guys by a gardener at a local hall.

Got my basic training coming up in October and sorting my chipper/first aid to go with it.

Under no illusions about getting in the profession, certainly going to take time but I know its going to be worth it :)

  4. Is there any difference from an employers point of view about courses - need to get one lined up - looking at the emergency at first aid though St John Ambulance, but they also have the normal 1 day course.

Is there any difference between the 2 or is it just splitting hairs?

    Cheers!

  5. Hi guys, really stupid question so please bear with me!

I am looking at booking my cs30/31 in the next month or 2 and have been looking at a range of courses near to me.

I am looking at doing a lantra course near to me and was simply wondering if there was any difference between the 2 providers, the only reason I ask is because a lot of jobs I have been looking at list "NPTC CS30/31" as a necessary qualification instead of "LANTRA CS30/31".

Does it actually matter or not, the only reason I ask is because I would like to find out before I part with any cash

    Thanks!

  6. HCR - thanks for that, I called them up today and after a good chat it was recommended I start with the ABC Level 2 Certificate to begin with, then look at the Level 4/6 in the future.

Stuart - Thanks, I need to call up Capel at some point this week to run things through with them, thats good news that I can get my tickets and classroom based work at the same time.

    Thanks gents!

  7. Cheers HCR, I am based in Cambridgeshire at the moment.

I want to get into tree surgery (gonna be booking mt CS30 to get the ball rolling) so I know I got plenty of work ahead!

Thanks for RHS suggestion, that is not something I knew about so will check it out.

Ideally I would like to do an academic course, but get my CS certs at the same time, have got some voluntary stuff coming up so its early days yet.

    Thanks for the reply :001_smile:

  8. Hi guys, I am looking pretty seriously at doing an arb course in 2013 but had a few questions which I was hoping people could answer.

1 - As far as qualifications (Lvl 1/2/3 etc) does that give you any advantage when it comes to the job market, the only reason is because I dont want to do a course where I learn plenty on the academic side, but when it comes down to the actual job it does not help much.

2 - As far as courses and the like is there anything employers look for specifically (like level 3 arb) or do they want someone with the relevant tickets who is hardworking, punctual, good attitude etc :001_smile:

Sorry for noob questions, I am totally new to this so just trying to get some opinions from people who have been there!

    Thanks!
