  1. When I’m above my comfort zone, which is around 70 ft. I often get the nursery rhymes Jack and Jill and Humpty Dumpty stuck in my head. Think it’s my subconscious trying to calm me down by making light of the situation.

Either that or the result of too many of the funny mushrooms that grow around silver birch as a youth.

  2. Sawthumb u ent used a jo-beau m400 lol thats the best gravity feed chipper iv used as u many well find out at the end of next month

ask ed he may fill u in

Ah yes, I’ve heard good things about them, it would be interesting to see one working. A bit worried it’ll make me regret buying the green mech though. Maybe I don’t want to see it, ignorance is bliss after all. Why do you think edwards so happy all the time:thumbup:

  3. I recently went half’s with my boss on the 18Hp version, I’m pretty chuffed with it. It easily kicks the arse of other gravity feed chippers I’ve used. It does guzzle a bit though. Also bear in mind the trailer has to be purchased separately. But other than that it's a nice little machine.

  4. I can take logs, cord and probably chippings. Am smack bang in the middle of Bury, Haverhill and Sudbury. Around Hawkedon way.

    Cheers

Thank you, that would be of great help to me. I know of loads of sites around Cambridge but none about Bury.

    Cheers:thumbup:

  5. looks like his sore thumb. bet that hurt silky by any chance?

No chainsaw. I had a couple of stitches put in before that picture was taken. It was hanging back further before, looked more like a hoof than a thumb.

Silky slips can be nasty too. It goes all white, and you think you’ve gotten away with it, than it starts to pour.....

  6. Conifers always get ya, got me in the leg once luckily my trousers done there job they are worth every penny.

I think I've only ever caught my trousers once with the chain. Most of the holes I get normally get start of as exhaust burns.

  7. When did you do it?

    It looks saw!

It was last June i think, It's all good now. It feels the cold a bit during the winter though.

  8. I think the repetition of doing the same boring job all week effected my concentration somewhat. That and tiredness from being worked too hard by a slave driver boss

  9. That thumb looks rotten, how did you do it?

I was cutting the centre stubs level to match the sides up a conifer hedge. Saw snagged by the dogs on little wispy dead bit whilst revving down and got pulled towards my hand.

So incorrect use of a top handled chainsaw basically :thumbup1:

  10. Im guessing, just off the top of my head, that it could just be a very Saw Thumb..... Maybe? :001_rolleyes::biggrin:, welcome to the site Tosh :thumbup1:

Yes! A saw thumb indeed. Well the botton bit was sore, couldn't feel alot in the top part......

  11. If you're ever down near Haverhill, my neighbour will take as much chip as you can get and I can take cordwood.

    Alec

I haven't done any work that way as of yet. But if I ever do I'll bare that in mind.

    Thanks for your response.

  12. Ha ha..... Nah my boss went half’s with me on a mini greenmech chipper, so he’s must be alright with it. It’s his fault anyway, if he threw me a bit more Saturday work it might never have happened. Hello by the way if your reading this Edward.

  13. Unfortunately space and storage is somewhat of a problem in regards to the selling of cordwood. But I could certainly give the allotments idea a try. Thanks.

  14. Hi guys, I work for a Cambridge firm. But live in Bury St Edmunds, where I’ve recently started doing my own private weekend work. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share a few sites to tip cordwood and or wood chippings around this area. Thanks.
