  1. I think the lesson here is more than just meeting girls. You can be "into trees" we all are, but you have to know when not to be.

If I talked about trees all the time I wouldnt have any freinds (except arbtalkers) let alone any lady friends!!

People who work in many other industries are also passionate about their jobs but if they went on about it all the time you would get bored of them, so try and keep your tree stuff to yourself.

When my freinds ask me how works is going is just say "fine thank you" and leave it at that, occassionally I'll go off on a rant about something but only to remind them why they shouldn't ask!!

I agree. I'd recommend toning down the 'treeness' and making a sexual innuendo out of it to break the ice, and show her that your not anal about your profession. Its okay to say your a tree surgeon, but like any job, if you go on about it too much then it normally puts girls off.

My Fella is a fellow tree surgeon like myself, and although we are in the same profession, and have a mutual interest of trees, he often bores me with his waffling of cutting techniques and pop "tree quiz" 's! :001_tongue:

  2. After getting further inspiration from the ArbShow today, I'm finally deciding to bite the bullet and try my hand at carving as I've always been quite interested in it.

But, i would need a carving bar for presumably for the 14" back handled saw, which is probably easiest to use for this purpose. I would also need to chain to accompany it. Does any one have any reccomendations on these? or any tips to help me start? I'm quite artistic anyway, and am quite patient which will help! My thinking is to start small and simple, for example with mushrooms or something, before getting better and developing further.

    Thanks,
