  1. So did you make a decision Pedroski?

Anyone else splashed out on a jacket and hot a review on it?

OMT, sorry I didn't reply to your PM - I've had a manic few days in the rain and hadn't had a chance to get on Arbtalk.

I've ended up wearing my Helly Hansen packable rain jacket that I got from MandMDirect, and it's kept me perfectly dry. Not hi-vis, but very waterproof and breathable. I just can't justify spending money at the moment

  2. Biggest problem I have is that I get so much use out of one set that the mating faces get worn and they go slack. Keep them sharp as a knife but once they've gone slack they are crap on anything that is stringy! Looks like I'll be filing the spacers down a bit - I'm sure they've got lots of hours of use left in them :)

  4. the buckboots that look like muckboots aren't all that good true but the proper wellies they do are top notch and seem to be the standard for safety wellies in the netherlands

Ahh, the Buckler wellies are a different story - top notch.

Years ago I had a pair of Hunters that were ok, but my Mrs got a pair 2 years ago and they split after 3 months of walking, and the buckles rusted. Over-priced rubbish they were and she'll never touch a pair again.

  6. Hedge cutting this is my view at the minute .... I find hedge cutters more tempramentle and don't last any thing like saws.. They use more fuel and and clearing up is usually over gravel or flower beds even if it's not it's a pita to chip! And if you cant chip it , getting rid of will cost you money to tip and dispose of if you cant burn the arisings..Then there's working off steps and ladders that I think is far more dangerous than off a harness tied in..and it's plus it's soo boring!! It should be more than tree work day rate IMO!

    Fully agree.

  9. could try buckboots by buckler come in slightly cheaper than muck boots and just as good. any farm supplies place will probably have them.

I was strongly advised AGAINST buying these by a farm supplies place. The purchase was going to be for dog walking, and the fella pointed out that the soles on the Buckboots muck boots are crap in the mud and on slopes. Ended up with a pair of Derwent neoprene wellies with really good soles on them. Got them from a fishing supplies place on line.... much cheaper than country stores!

  12. Just sitting eating my breakfast watching with morbid fascination a guy in jeans and a baseball cap topping the hedge the other side of the road with an ms200 using it one handed all the way! cutting at neck/head height on a ladder!

i know its not the home owner so must be a contractor, so if your a home owner and a "proffesional" turns up to your house looking/working like this please dont use them!!

Im going to split some wood out back and wait for the sirens...:post:...:nurse:...:saint:

Fun! But just because it's not the homeowner doesn't necessarily mean it's a contractor - could be friend or friend of friend of the homeowner.

But thats not a fair comparison, you have to take into account the time taken loading and securing the ladders at the yard and taking them home at the end of the day.

    <snip>

Yeah but, we've always got the ladders on the truck anyway - they're handy for those times we need to clear out gutters, or for when we're taking on jobs of replacing fascias and soffits, doing some roofing, topping trees, cleaning windows.....

  14. Personally, by the time the ladder is off the van & in position, my throwline & Pantin have got me to the height of the triples already.

  15. good 3d on the saw, not to bad fine art finish for the saw too.

not sure about your blacked out body/tree.

be a bit worried about a career change, at least the memories are there.

Bit more worried about what happens when he realises that Stihl saws are pants

  16. what about a jeep ?, i would keep the hi lux tho if possible, if not look at a jeep, plenty of room, decent 4x4.

Just don't get one like mine - 4.0 Grand Cherokee.... fuel comp seems to think I'm averaging 14.6mpg! I kind of hope they're little US Gallons and great big fat US miles, but I don't think they are!

  17. Yep, the impellers on the new Stihls seem to be made of foam! We've got through 3 of the buggers in a year, and them impellers ain't cheap to replace. OK for blowing... but for vacuuming, they suck in a bad way.

  18. look on ebay for recycled plastic sheet its like ply but totally weather proof i used it to build a chip body for my truck and got the visible faces covered with dibond ally board and it looks the dogs, its much cheaper than grp and i think it will last longer to

They look brilliant they do. I've got a Sankey Wolf army trailer that I use for camping etc, and currently use a canvas cover on it. While ago I bought locks and catches with the intention of making a hard top from alloy planking, but the price of the alloy planking shot up compared with what I paid before so the project got put on hold. These recycled plastic boards look perfect :)
