  2. Thanks for your help. If I am to cut a section, what would be the particular differences that I should look for to differentiate between the two?
  3. This fungus is growing on the base of an ash tree, which is about 1m diam x30metres tall. It is adjacent to a walkway and a house. The fungus is quite hard and the larger section is about 1 ft across. Could anyone help me to identify it, and whether it has implications on the stability of the tree? I wonder whether it could be Perreniporia fraxinea? The tree has been in leaf during the summer.
