Mapp gas. I've never used it, but I've watched other carvers use it. I tried with a normal blow torch but it was rubbish, kept blowing out.

How important are humans anyway? So what if we die out? Refill the fridge with tinnies, love your friends and families and make the most of everyday. The human race, war lords and politicians will kill us off. Let's introduce bears and wolves into the uk to liven things up ...

Cheers guys, I hate the kingfisher. I made one for a friend because they asked for one, then someone else asked for one, and now another aagggghhhhhh!

Re my previous post, worried about upsetting the neighbours carving, can I bung my 8" canon carving bar/ sprocket/ 1/4chain, from my stihl ms192 on an electric saw?
I've got a very old lecky BnD gk1635t saw, and a 2 year old lecky bosch which takes 40 cm bar.
Cheers Miranda

I had that with a kingfisher's beak in oak. I bought some wood hardener from b&q and painted it all over the rotten bit (after finishing the piece) only time will tell if I've achieved anything. It worked wonders on some rotten window frames I was repairing year's ago.

They are just beautiful!

Hi guys, You can get insurance through norwich union/aviva, occupation: chainsaw carver, coverage up to £5 mil public liability for about £100 per year. I don't have it, I'm just a hobby carver.

I was there the first day too. For making the eyes, they use an eye tool. It's like a router bit with a concave cup end. You bung it in an electric drill and it burns the in the eye. I haven't managed to find any sold commercially. I think most carvers make them themselves or have mates who can make them.
If any one knows how to get hold of set ...

I couldn't cook buns, that takes skill, I hate being in the kitchen. I'm a rubbish cook, hubby is much better than I am. Decorating cakes is the easy bit, you just need to buy the right stuff, read up on techniques and off you go. If you can make models out of plasticine you can do this, it doesn't take real talent like tommy tree carver.

YAY! A thread I can post on. This was my last hobby before I fell in love with chainsaws .... I made this for my kid's 5th birthday.

I use 8" dime bar on an ms 192. As a hobby carver and female I need to have good control with minmal weight. I originally had a 12" bar but the 8 inches is easier for me. I'd like to be on an 8" quarter tip with a full house chain, but I don't have the time to research how to achieve this eg filing links etc.

The hares are my favourite.

yeah, the power thingy spec on the 150 is less than the 192. I'd love more power, but the big beasts are just too heavy for me. My 211 is great since I bunged a light weight bar on it - as I'm weakling girl
