  2. been carving a lot of ash since we happened across a free blown down tree, this wood is green still and so is easy to carve ,still a lot to do on this one but its taking shape nicely.
  3. dunno mate ,arent truggs made from oak? could be that or maybe ash, that splits well.
  4. crikey thell out last us all ,well done!
  5. i saw this series of vids on you tube, the method reminds me of how truggs are made, A "Gerla" was a common type of pack in the Alp regions of Italy, it was used mostly to carry hay and grass from the fields to the barns, on your back, since wheels would be no good in the steep mountains. The maker of the Gerla in the videos uses a typical multi-purpose knife called "Roncola" And the sequence of the you tube videos for the construction of the Gerla. Each video is about 1.5 minutes long. The film was taken in the 70's i believe on cine film, the music is crap but the info good, theres several parts but well woth watching. 6. mate dont worry about the ammount of work or the ammount you make in cash, just contact working tax credits and tell them you will be working as self employed at 16 hours a week at nmw, they will asses you and pay you an income based on those figures, once awarded this you can apply for housing and council tax benefits, based on nmw you will get 100% rate, then at the end of the year you supply working tax credits with your actual income and if its less than your assessed rate they send you a fat cheque for the difference, works a treat for me! and if your business is a success you can gently wean off the government help to a point where you are totally self sufficiant by way of income. if you need any furthur help just shout.and good luck.
