  1. For long term improvement of any sod installation use drainage pipes or French drains as we call it in texas, it is the only way to go. We have a lot of heavy clay soils in Houston and I have to deal with this type of abiotic disorder all the time. While I am sure the grasses and surrounding conditions are different, permanent improvement of drainage will be the least costly in the long run. Always go for long term improvements.
