  1. Thanks Paul, good advice. I did put on the add that I will help when needed but I see what your saying about working with the new owner. Glad you like the photography work we are doing.

I am going to do a photo/video shoot of us up some trees soon, we did an aerial shot of an oak tree being feld the other day, looked great.

  2. Thanks TY looks like I'll be putting some equipment on leboncoin. The new business is property marketing, so if someone is selling or renting there house or want to showcase there gite then we can do this for them. We are offering aerial photography & videography as well as all the usual ground photos and videos. I did 2 year A level photography when we lived in England so I love anything to do with photography. Last week was our first payed week and 7 weeks ago this was just an idea in my head. Check out the new website we have done, its 90% done Home - dragonfly media let me know what you think. BTW T33eco damn it you found me out :-)

  3. Thanks for the advice everyone, I think what I will do is break the company up. So I will sell the van and equipment separately and if I can sell the name and the work we have booked in for a small price I'll do that.

It does not bother me that its not sold as I thought its a tall order to sell this kind of business here in France its just a shame because we must have close on €10k worth of work for September booked in and my new business is ready to take off so I need to be looking after that as well.

    Thanks again for the help.

  4. Hi all, This is not me trying to get more people looking at the business I have for sale this is a genuine question.

We are selling up our tree surgery business in France, we have placed an add in the classifieds section of arbtalk but was just wondering if there is any where else I could advertise it in England that other tree surgeons would be looking.

Has anyone had any experience in sell in a business like this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks Mark

  5. Thanks everyone, I don't think its lack of water as we have had more than our fair share this spring. I was wondering if its the start of the same problem with the plane trees along the Canal du Midi?

It looks like its really struggling, its only got half the leafs it should have and a lot are curling up and dropping off.

Cutting it down is a last resort, so feeding it with nitrogen is a good idea, how do I do that?

    Cheers

  6. Hi Shane,

For what its worth I bought a HB20 from Dean last year and the whole deal was good. The customer service is brilliant and more importantly the grinder does everything I need it to do, and everything Dean said it would. Have a go before you buy I don't think you will find anything wrong with the HB20. We even use it sometimes to do stumps that a bigger machine should be doing but it eats it all up. It is a workout on a slope but all hand held machines are and I have never even nearly tipped mine. If mine got nicked tomorrow i would get another HB20, cheers.

  7. Opinions are split on the rope issue. By the way, if that's you in your avatar you might want to do some work on your pecs before pulling any ropes.

If that was me on my avatar I would never get any work done, if you know what I mean:lol:

  8. Just joined this thread and jumped from page 3 to the end as I have not enough time to read it all, blades to sharpen and vans to wash. I have two big pines to section fell next week but I would love to be part of the stunt fell club but before I do it and I add my pic for you all to laugh at can I use a rope for it to qualify? I might even show you all what a real breakfast looks like, French style ha ha

  9. what are you getting?

Bandit hb20 sidewinder, I need to call the lad to confirm it yet just waiting for some money to transfer into my english account.

BTW Mike I was not refering to you been too expencive in my coments when you did those stumps for us a few years ago you did us a good deal but your just too far away to use.

  10. Here are my thoughts for what it is worth as regards equipment.

When we moved to france 10 years ago I came with a tipper van, chainsaws, climbing gear and thats it. I had to hire chippers at €230 per day and use a local guy to grind the stumps for me at €350 per stump (far too expencive)

I charge €550 per day for two man team and then €230 for the chipper totaling €780 a day. We got work but not loads. now I own my own chipper (bank loan for €300 a month) and charge €550/€590 a day including the use of the chipper and we are booked up till end of Feb now. We are getting a new stump grinder next month and we have €1500 woth of work ready for this to do.

My point behind all that dribble is never be afrade to invest, my moto is the more equipment I own the more I can do in house and the better I look. Also have good business cards and a good web-site these you can do yourself and not a lot of money.

  11. Mark

meant to ask whereabouts in the SW of France are you?

I come down to the Bieres En Armagnac in the Gers a couple of times a year,as my parents have a place there - beautiful area, thought about moving down that way a few times.

Hi Minotaur, we live 30 mins south of Bergerac, I think you go a bit more south west than that.

You should move down especially if you parents have a place here. Its a good life, hard work but good.

  12. I cannot understand why Stihl would make a plastic houseing :confused1:

TY I'm glad someone is making some money here, I seem to work my ass off all day five days aweek and then do quotes on a weekend and I never seem to have any money. MSA take €800 a month of me, the tax here is nothing really it's the social charges here that kill it.

Dont get me wrong it's a better life here and I would never go back but its hard work. I think my problem is I'm on my own here, could do with a young lad from collage 3 days a week, might look into that.

Thanks evenangelseatbeans & Maxnaggle for the info and photo, very helpfull.

One more thing in favour of living down in the south west is the winters are very short and I get to raz my motorbike around these lovely quiet twisty roads:thumbup:
