  1. No the book about our lot is called "we dance because we cannot fly"

It tells the story of BETEL.

How it started with one junkie in Spain and then spread across the globe... We're in over 100 cities including Mexico , Russia , Kazakhstan, Mongolia, India . All over Europe and of course the UK.

It is a truly amazing story of changed lives. I'm blessed to be a small part of it. Did all my tickets in Betel and now run a centre and business.

Brilliant stuff! Coincidentally a friend of mine has done loads of used furniture stuff with BETEL.

The author of the book I read, Wasted, ended up setting up an Arb company and now is a national drugs advisor and campaigner.

    Just ordered "We dance.............."

  2. Our ARB business is set up to help addicts turn their lives around....

Our "recovery" programme is free to enter but residents must work a realistic working week in one of our charitable businesses to fund their own recovery... Gaining work skills and more importantly a work ethic.

Only the very broken and desperate seem to grasp the opportunity..

Why??? Because we've created a national culture of "helplessness"

Habitual criminals and drug addicts are labeled "vulnerable adults" and no one is allowed to challenge them because they are "vulnerable" and it infringes their human rights (believe me, when I was a junkie I was anything BUT vulnerable, I was a menace.) So we pension them of with state sponsored methadone prescriptions, free flats and £280 per week disability living allowance... Tell them that they are sick or disabled with no hope and then create an industry around it...No wonder so few seek real change for their lives...... Why should they.?????

Huge respect to you for that. Is your Arb company anything to do with the guy that wrote the book "Wasted" Read it a couple of months ago. An extraordinary story, should be on all school's curriculum reading list.

  3. Hi

Finally I've got a website. Mrs SS built it, her first one. if anyone has two mins please look at it and let me know what needs changing and any pedants are more than welcome to point out any howlers! If you think owt needs changing please feel free to rip it to bits! Am rather new at the online presence other than forums.

Sorry if this post appears slightly spammy but i doubt that anyone here is looking for Festival Decor!

    Cheers SS

It, hopefully, is here ENGLISH GARDEN ART - Home

  4. So the lad that burnt my workshop down, as well as 8 acres of miscanthus and also did 4 burglaries was in court yesterday.

The result? A 12 month supervision order which means that once a week he has to go into an office and say how he is being a good boy. No fine or compensation for anyone.

    Am not entirely happy.

  5. After another arson attack (5 acres of miscanthus) in the village where my workshop is a 17ish year old lad has admitted to the 3 offenses. I should be feeling jubilant but just feel sad. He's screwed things up for himself even more than for me. And if he goes to prison will he come out any better?

  6. Just read this post, what utter scum. If theres anything i can do to help out let me know. im in Taunton myself. Colin

Thanks, that's much appreciated. If there is any chance of me buying any timber from you at reasonable rates that would really help. Can collect and have a small crane available. Thanks. J

  7. Thanks so much for all the messages and support everyone. It really is much appreciated and really does make me feel better. As my bro in law said, who has worked with me for years, '13 years of sweat, toil, laughs and memories destroyed'.

But hey, I'm a one trick pony. No choice but to keep calm and carry on. I carve therefore I am.......... I'm sure it will be OK in the end.

  8. Jesus Christ. It's one thing nicking tools because you think you need to to survive. It's quite something else to set light to the place - it makes me sick.

To get you started with carving again, I just cut some lovely (massive) lime at the weekend. I'll pop a slab in post for you if you want.

    Jonathan

Fantastic, I think a second class stamp should cover it :-)
