I've been fuelling my wood burner for the last six years on free arb waste, often dropped on my drive by the local lads. This year? Not a hope. They are selling every scrap they can and I think firewood prices commanded here are on a par, if not more than, the equivalent gas price. Time to buy that bit of Welsh forest perhaps!

Dried a donated batch last summer and burnt the lot over winter with great success but when I collected it you could almost wring the water out. Very light when dry and we went through enough to fill an average sized lounge! Kept me fit moving and splitting it and rotating through my log piles mind you.

Insurance firms generally don't like to cover stuff that cant be traced (I have no experience of NFU or farming incidentally). Couple of ideas - dye mark the stuff or stick a tracker in a log! I bet they would be more interested in insuring it if it had marker dye or a means of tracing the load.

Burnt about 8 cubic metres of Pop last winter after one year of seasoning and it was excellent. Burnt a bit quick of course but it's fine if you make sure it's good and dry.
Do you still have that Pop available in Manchester? We are in Cheshire and we've got two vehicles and trailers - can collect evenings and weekends.
But how big is the UK firewood market?

This includes FC estimates for wood fuel in the UK - looks like time to plant up a few more forests!
