Has anyone else noticed a decline in Rowans this year, i have taken out 6 semi mature trees for separate customers recently. Each one has shown signs of crown die back, in some cases alot of die back. No sign of fruiting bodies but there is signs of fungi inside the timber. Has it just been a good year for fungi and a bad year for Rowans. Any ideas? Sorry no photos forgot about the wonders of Arb talk.

Has anyone else had chance? Is it just me that when I change to my carving bar, the phone rings and I have to do 'proper' work?
Tell me about it! Every time i changed the bar on my 200T i had to change it straight back for work. In the end i got myself a 192CE its a great saw, just havnt really used it much yet.
But i will.
One day.

So thats quite conclusive then, frost damage caused by late pruning. Thanks for all the help.

Today I removed a Eucalptus that had declined very suddenly. It had been lightly reduced in October last year. Pruning cuts looked good, all in all not a bad job. Since the reduction mostly in the last few months the bark has split in the majority of unions and exposed rather a lot of dead wood underneath, 90% of the foliage had died and the tree definitely had the swagger of a dead tree. I think it may have been fungal because there were dark markings inside the majority of the canopy's wood but not a lot in the wood lower down the tree. Is this something that has got into the tree because it was pruned too late or is it something else? Unfortunatley I dont have any photos. Any answers would be most appreciated.
Many thanks.

I'm not a fan of 0800 numbers to be honest. Many of the less scrupulous tree firms and the like round me have 0800 numbers. This is so they don't have to have any home contact number either because they travel a lot or don't wish you to know where they live. I'm not saying everyone is like this who has 0800 numbers. I could see the appeal but not for me.
Thank you everyone for all the advice.
I was put off using my landline for work but i think it is probably the best option. Thanks again:thumbup:

Im looking into buying a chipper, probably a timberwolf 150DHB. Since ive started looking there seem to a few timberwolf Entec available. So what im asking is are they good machines. I dont want to get sucked in by the cheaper price and regret it later.

The best advice i can give you is to just get stuck in. It's amazing how quick you will pick it up. All you need is a bit of imagination and a chainsaw helps too.
