  1. That Danarm one looks like a beauty! Bit big and cumbersome though.
  2. Hi all, I've acquired an 038av super (converted to magnum 72cc) courtesy of ebay. I bought it as a long-term investment and for use should the job require it. This is my first petrol chainsaw and I'm very much a beginner. It weighs more than I thought it would, and probably more than the equivalent new model, but starts easily and is in good condition. How do I find out how old it is in case I need spare parts? There's a serial number below the kickback guard mounting: 119439859 Are the first 4 digits the month and year it was built? Many thanks, Jon-Paul.
  3. Decided not to bother going to have a look at the Makita saw after all. I fought off the impulse to go and buy it. I do appreciate the advice about the 346xp, but new, it is way out of my price bracket and I'm not sure if I could justify spending that amount on something that's only going to be used occasionally and might be overkill for my requirements. On the other hand, I do want something that's going to last with plentiful spare parts available, so maybe a professional grade machine is the better bet. And I could always sell it on if it doesn't go some way to paying for itself. So a good used one it is then.
  4. Hi, I've come across a Makita dsc430 on ebay. Item number: 160485338276 Do you think it may be a quick simple fix regarding the idling issue to get it running properly? The guy is local to me so could be a real bargain if he accepts cash. Please advise, the help is much appreciated. Thanks, Jon-Paul
  5. I'm looking at a used makita dsc430 on ebay, currently at £117 plus £20 postage. Looks a nice bit of kit.
  6. Hi there, thanks for your help so far. I'm looking at buying my first petrol chainsaw. It wouldn't be used a great deal but I want something that's going to last and be able to take on more work in the future. After looking at really cheap ones for £80 through to £350 middle range saws, I've come across the husqvarna 236 for £175 brand new. Would this be a good place to start? And what are the alternatives from stihl, solo, etc? I didn't realise hitachi make chain saws too. Worth a look? Many thanks, JP
  7. Maybe it's best if I follow your advice guys and leave it as it is. Insulated the wire and put it back together. I have a habit of breaking things. Its been cutting out this morning and the cable now needs be be on a certain angle where it enters the saw to run. Must be a loose connection. I'm sick of it anyway. Maybe about time I got a good petrol one. Any recommendations? Can't afford a new one and it doesn't have to be top spec. Will only be for occasional personal use. I've just bought a stihl chain with 57 drive links. Will the chain fit any 16 inch bar? Many thanks.
  8. That photo makes it look like lego! I suppose to you guys, it is disposable lego.
  9. Just for own garden use. Don't need some heavy expensive saw at the moment. The circlip doesn't have holes at its ends.
  10. I've wrapped the area with tape as a temp measure but until I can afford a petrol one, this will have to last a bit longer! I was hoping to also clean the inside of the saw as it makes a bit of a grinding noise when the brake kicks in. I know it's only a cheapo electric but is ideal for occasional use.
  11. It looks like a circlip holding it on but I haven't got any of the pincer type pliers to release it.
  12. Hi all, I've got a new quandary. I'm taking my chainsaw apart as I've partially cut the power cable and wish to rewire it. All the bolts have been removed but the drive sprocket seems to be holding the two halves of the outer case together. How do I remove it to gain access? Many thanks, JP Clarey
  13. How would the pulley idea work? Is it something I could do myself?
  14. Hi, It does speed up yes. Even when I moved the spring onto the next notch the run speed didn't increase though. Any ideas? Thanks
