imagine this situation where you have been up all night on call outs, very little supervision, done the best you can. You take the risks required because that's the job you "signed up to do". Your at breaking point, your knackered, your bodies knackered. Then the phone rings...another call out. You turn up and its a row of big trees that all need to be dealt with one way or another. You phone for help, your told get on and do it , their climbable etc etc is the response. What would you do?? Man up?!! Its not always about the size of your nut sack.

I have found with vests that I get scratched to hell with the extra flesh exposed when climbing. definitely cooler though!

Does anyone use arm protection? They are a semi solution but in my opinion the cons out way the pros. Heat for me is the biggest problem with them.

Good job:thumbup1:

my mate Jack Russell knows a good land rover when he sees one.

I have trouble with my ears. tinnitus being one. I have worried for a while of the effectiveness of ear defenders. especially over years of use stood next to a Vermeer bc 1000! The higher db ones with the extra foam are ok. I think there is room for improvement in ear protection, and this is definatley one way forward. Ill give it a go. Thanks for posting

I think there's a quote from John Wayne, something like..." If you haven't fallen off a horse you haven't been riding long enough."
I think this applies to tree work unfortunately!!! (just slightly re-phrased though!)

oh yeah...there is also a big grey area about when they become a problem. I say its as soon as the leaves emerge. right????????

I find this issue hard to address as nothing is set in stone regarding health and safety. Today I coughed so hard I thought my guts were going to come out.

We're approaching that time of year again when plane trees become a bit of a hazard to health with all the hairs and pollen on them. Is there "official" industry regulations or guidlines on working on them during this period, or is it one of them things we try and deal with. ie masks etc. I know street crews suffer alot in the cities and the guys in charge try to issue the work in the winter.
The whole issue is a bit grey. cheers

the scabbard on the zubat now has loops for saw pod to stop silky sliding about. Do they all have this feature now???

Some people set low prices just to get their foot in the door and hope for more work from it.

Hi everyone this is not an appeal to see if anyone has seen my works i phone around, just a reminder to anyone who doesnt always lock thier cabs up when working. Evan if your only ten feet away!
My work phone was stolen by a crim just yards from us. I usually have a habit of tucking things in away out of sight when working. sometimes i even lock my cab. One moments lapse of concentration has got me in big trouble at work and some crim better off. I will have to lock my cab at all times now just to be safe but it is a pain.
at my work if you your vehicle gets nicked cause youve left keys ignition its instant dismissle, which is fair enough i soppose!
oh well i will have to be one step ahead of the crims again. cut their hands off i say!

The hedge trimmer attachment is more reliable. :001_tt2:have you never had a chain tighten on a saw before:lol:

we've had the same issues with ours at work. I dont think they are very good even once it oils they never seem to last very long. Hedge trimmer attachment is much more reliable.

this job is as much about attitude as it is skill. People with the wrong attitude make a days work really hard. So i judge on what the do not what they know generally. Age is not overly importent.

thats what men are good at, improvisation! like the elastic band round your head with your mobile tucked in makes an ideal hands free kit. Another tip..Allways miss placing your keys...next time phone a friend and tell them where you have put them...if you forget where they are phone your mate!

At least it wasn't covered in ivy as well!!!

My guess would be that the fella has been doing this sort of thing for many years. he's aware it is wrong but not aware of the possible consequences of his actions financially if caught. If he knew he could get a 6 grand fine he probably would have done something about it. I didnt know i could get fined 6 grand!!

Its surprizing how much of your view is blocked by the passenger wing mirror and door frame in lorries when looking left. If the car was in that spot when he looked left for that split second he would not have seen it. Still no excuse though if that was the case!
