I have an acre of land at the back of house sitting doing nothing. Id like to make somemoney from it but looking for ideas, free range chickens, pigs, it has a stream so land based fish farm, Anyone else got any ideas? Cheers

Mind if I ask for those of you that do commercial or larger grass cutting contracts, were you approached to do them or did you have to market the service direct to places like business parks/ nursing homes etc ? Im looking for ideas on how to expand and am interested in more commercial side, by way im based in NI so wont be poaching any customers. cheers

Cheers for responce folks. I get a short bit of climbing training, then I have to do a climbing test and if I pass that I get a couple of months training to complete certs and providing I complete certs I get an Interview with the view to getting a job. Im thinking even if I didnt get hired at interview at least I would have all of the certs to approach other employers to gain more experience. Kiwi Climber I know what you mean about getting ahead to working for myself so I can get of the tools again at some stage I think I can get financial backing to start up but will need the experience behind me & I have thought about maybe looking at mix of tree work and landscapeing/garden maintenance to spread out the work load. cheers

hi folks I have a slight chance of completing CS30,31,32,38 and 39 with possibility of a job but at the age of 30 is this a wise move? as ive heard someone else thats in tree work say that they are nackered at 31. Any opinions greatly appreciated. Cheers

Hi Folks Thanks for your replies and advice. Ive been looking at Arb as a career for a year or two and the idea keep comeing back, now that ive been paid off for the third time in a few years and never really made any more than about 20Gs with a lot of job unsatisfaction in the mix so I think ill have to go for it. I might get a small amount of funding so am going to go for the CS30 & 31 to start and hopefully 32, any pointers to help get foot in the door as a groundie?

Hi Folks Bit of a general wide open question but: Aswell as the obvious rewards from working in Arb is it relaistic for someone to bring home £20 grand a year if they have there own Arb business, all certs, and years of experience behind them? Cheers for opinions

Hi Peter I havent done any Tree work but have done a lot of physical graft outside, labouring and the likes, I also spent months lifting and building sacks equivelant weight to the big cement bags from ground level up to 10ft heights ,so im not afraid of a bit of hard graft. Thanks for the advice

Hi Guys Thanks very much for your replies, im even more persuaded to go for it now with full proper training, ive spent to long in average paid temporary admin jobs stuck in an office not getting anywhere not to go for it, hail rain or shine. Ive been looking at Merist or Otley 10 week courses and then ground worker jobs to start. Cheers
