Well my view was to ask the people who know what they want because i wouldn't have a clue what someone was looking for. Anyone can get the tickets but not everyone can be an employee.
Plus my view is "If you don't know ask" there is never a stupid question.

I was in the Army for 16 years and i stumbled into the job when i was looking for a resettlement course to go on when i decided to leave. The forces paid for my tickets and training which was a massive help i can tell you. The time i had in the forces did sorted out my work ethic and showed me alot of things i would never have seen or done if i didn't go in. But i do have to say that i am enjoying this job more than i enjoyed my time within the Army. I started out on this career choice at the ripe old age of 34 and i do have to say that i am fitter now than i was in the forces.
Just a short bit to share my experiance to show that you wouldn't be to old to start if you did decide to join the marines and then come to the job after. Plus if you qualify you get the resettlement grants to pay for your training and assessment fees.
Hope you do sort out what you want to do and good luck with either choice

Thank you for the advice to both Rupe and John. I went in was honest, enthusiastic and managed to get myself the job. So as of Monday i'm back in the trees thank god.

Rupe.
I have never had a job where you have only 1 hat to wear so to speak you always muck in and get the job cracked as a group because then you all can finish on time.
John.
Thanks for the inside knowledge on what you look for. 2,3 & 4 i have alot of examples from my previous career and a few from the last job i had. No. 1 i'm itching to get back in the harness so to speak and learn as much as i can from everyone so that has number 5 covered to go with my quals. And number 6 i have from my last employer so hopefully it will go ok.

Thanks Rupe. I wouldn't have thought about the driving skills to be honest. The other things that you have said are a help and i will keep them in mind. In my last job the things you said were just natural things to do but not something i would have thought you would have to prompt people to do.

Hello all,
I was ust looking for advice on what employers are looking for in an interview. I know this sounds strange but as i have only ever had 2 interviews i really am a novice when it comes to them.
Will an employer look at me differently as i'm 35 and i am only a novice in this field with only being in it for about 18 months after doing 16 years in the army. I have found that obviously being truthful and completely open is the only way to go but i was wondering if there was anything else.
Thanks Ian

where abouts in the birmingham area is it bvl? Only asking as it could end up as a massive commute.

Hopefully a few years to come for me as i'm 35 and only been in the trade for 18 months. I feel fitter now that i have for years though so i can't see me stopping anytime soon.
