Best bit of kit you''ll buy. Had one for the last few years. So light you can use it in the tree! It's not a tirfor but winches alot faster and a hell of alot lighter. I definitely use it more than the tirfor. I use 12mm three strand from honeys cheap but effective.
Buy one!!

Italian hitch, Munter hitch, HMS hitch - same thing.
See Munter hitch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for details.
It may be tied single or doubled, and tied off, but is twists the rope, see
and
You should use a "HMS" marked carabiner which has a large radius, symmetrically rounded side.
Nice...didn't realise that there was a double italian hitch, will definately try this out:thumbup1:

I don't get it.
You could buy a decent LD with the money from one job, easily.
The reason for not buying was that the job is tomorrow and there are no shops to buy a lowering device in ireland!

Has anyone a suggestion as to an alternative to a lowering device, not having money or time for a capstan or port a wrap purchase. It'll need to be more secure and precise than just wrapping the rope round the stem or an italian hitch.
Cheers

Husky or stihl, does the reduced cc on the husky make such a difference?
