That sounds like a plan....certainly can't do any harm. Thank you for the idea.

I understand the importance of not climbing alone, and may have finally tracked down a recently passed cs38 person to show me the right knots etc and be willing to help me and practice together. I just need to get used to heights gradually before i spend money that i haven't got please feel free to add hints, tips and any words of wisdom you feel may help. Thanks again for the replies and will still be willing to swap labour for a bit of climbing practice. Cheers guys.

Plan B....i've got access to very climbable trees at some of my customers properties where they can keep an eye on me should i need it...what if i got the climbing gear, found a safe accessible tree and set about hauling myself up and down to get use to the heights, technique etc.....would this do more harm than good ???.....just a thought

i know i'm a newbie without the experience of most the people on this forum but i just took cs 30 and 31 with a little second-hand ms180 and it never missed a beat even on the felling days. They are usually on e-bay if you want a used one.

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement, and i hope i can post a few aerial photo's in the near future to show my progress....if any lol. Maybe i'll get to meet some of you at a meet some time......here's hoping and thank you all again for your replies.

ps......i would be more than happy to exchange labour for help. I have worked as a groundie and as a self employed person i know what hard work is and i don't shy away from it. Thanks again for looking, Rob.

Hi guys, great to read all your threads and see all the great work you guys do. I've been a general gardener for 5 or 6 years now, but got involved with a bit of tree work a year or so ago and love it.....i just need to get some more help and experience. I've just got cs 30 and 31 and had a go at climbing but not a great fan of heights. What i would like is for some kind person to give me a few climbing lessons before i decide to go for 38 and 39. For one thing it's a lot of money which i really don't have, and i need to know that i can stand the scary heights etc and that i'm not too cowardly to work up trees:001_smile: If anyone is having a bit of local climbing practice in the Dorset/ Hampshire area and wouldn't mind helping out a complete coward, please let me know. Many thanks to everyone anyway and hats off to you all for your great work. Cheers, Rob.

Met one of the local gardeners around my area today who had heard that the local forestry commision lock-up had recently been robbed including several saws and strimmers. Don't know any more details but thought you guys should be aware that they may be for sale or that the they may still be in the area.
