  1. Can you not overload a 130 more easily then a 110?

A 130 must weigh more than a 110 and has more load space.

We have been running transits for years and I want to be legal...

There are so many different body combinations, a 130 double cab will carry its weight over the rear axle, yet a single cab would help carry that weight forward to the front axle. If you study photos of both 110 & 130 tippers you will notice the 110 has a lot of its body overhang behind the rear axle.

  2. I've a 4000lb tow ball winch from David Bowers goodwinch. It is useful but very difficult to pay in neatly on the drum as it swivels on the towball. I would be careful with a winch any bigger , would the towball take it?

  3. In what way uneconomic fella?

I must have misunderstood, i thought you were talking about buying new.

What exactly are you looking for? I have a TD5 double cab that will be for sale in a few months if you are interested?

I nearly bought a station wagon as a impulse buy, by uneconomic I meant that I would be paying 235 a year more in road tax for a near identical vehicle with commercial road tax status.

  4. Thanks for your help lads, as usual its not that straight forward. It has brought to my attention that many of these bargain station wagon defenders are uneconomic.

I just about managed to resist an impulsive buy on eBay that would keep the chancellor happy. Thanks lads.

  5. I'm considering buying another landy , would I be right in saying if its a pick up, double cab or van then its commercial road tax and if its a station wagon then your robbed off customs & excise? I also wonder if you fit seats & Windows in a van then does the road tax bracket change ?

  6. Sorry to hear that , your out trying to earn a living, to pay some tax, to keep some lazy scrotum in benefits . He then robs your tools. Chop their hands off , medieval justice. I'd love to catch them for you.

  7. PL, EL and equipment

Just re-insured from NFU to Trust

The exclusions on NFU made the policy unworkable for a tree surgeon:

We will not pay liability arising from:

    1. Felling of any tree exceeding six metres unless its distance from any public road, railway, building or structure equals or exceeds its height

    2. pruning or felling of any tree exceeding 10 metres in height, within ten metres of any public roadway, railway, building, structure or over head cable

My premium with them was £1308

    PL £2.5m

    EL £10m

    Tools £10K

Chipper was down as trailer (dodgey) on seperate policy at near £400

Now I am with Trust @ £2400 with no restrictions and loads more enhancments on their insurance such as rehabilitation for injured employees with private health care and all new for old policy

    PL £5m

    EL £10m

    Tools £10K

    Chipper £21K

    Mewp £10K

Cheap insurance has a risk of non payment in the event if you do not scrutinise the small print

I had exactly the same stipulations applied to my Nfu policy.

I have been with them 10 years now. I renewed the policy with them as same as you I told them unworkable so they cancelled the endorsements.

  8. I recently had a similar problem , cured now . My saw would run ok but would not pick up, had to tickle throttle to get the reps up.

I went through the lot stripped the exhaust and scraped the coke out.

New spark plug and fuel pick up.

Ran engine whilst spraying carb cleaner, followed by removing diaphragms from carb & spraying more carb cleaner.

None of the above worked so new inlet manifold ( that's the rubber bit between carb & engine block .

    Problem cured.

  9. My GM CS100 is 190kg's, I wonder what that would be like on the back of the 8foot trailer??

I don't know Max, my trailer is 10ft. I'm sure it will be a close thing, I find the Jo beau just that bit too heavy to have hanging off the back. If you have the materials and the time then probably worth a bit of experimentation, spend a fortune ; you could be disappointed .

  10. and stand there feeding the damn thing.......or price in a groundy and make him do the dragging.....

and raking all the chip to the front of the chip box coz it cant spit it far enough......

I still cant see the attraction, and hasnt the king of the wee chippers just bought a dirty great tarcked machine:sneaky2::sneaky2:

I too have a dirty great tarked machine but if I had to choose one I would keep the Jo beau.

  11. Can I ask how heavy is the JB? Did it wag much when the trailer was full?

Max, the jb weighs a quarter ton , however with my stump grinder (120kg) on the platform the trailer has very good road manners .

It does sometimes save a second trip back to the job .

  12. I am surprised no one on any of the vehicle threads I have read has mentioned the latest style Ford Ranger which has been out for a couple of years now. In the March 2010 edition of "4x4" magazine (used to be Off Road and Four Wheel Drive for those of you old enough to remember) the Ranger won the group pick up test - the contenders being Isuzu Rodeo, Mazda BT50, Mitsubishi L200 (surely one of the most unattractive vehicles ever built!!),Nissan Navara and the Toyota HILux. A friend of mine has one and swears by it and a lot of the gamekeepers on estates where he picks up have switched from Defenders to Rangers and they rate them very highly. After 20 years of Land Rover ownership I am even considering buying one!

Yep on my second ranger, good trucks , tow 3 ton 1/2 the price of a landrover. I am a land rover fan I've had 3 but I'm running a business and need a vehicle that's reliable, economic, starts 1st time , no drafts , the heater & the air con work.

I will get another landy at some time but not as my main vehicle.

  13. Heres a picture of our trailer platform. This was the only time the jo beau has been on the platform, too much weight over rear of trailer, which made the trailer wag its tail over 50mph. The platform is fine for the muck truck or stumpgrinder, prefered method to carry jo beau in back of pick up.

  14. I have just bought hd security chain, a track lock & ground anchor. All excellent commercial grade security . They do a telescopic post . I'm not good with photos and links but Google thief stoppers by lincmaster, their phone number is stickered on timberwolf chippers.
