  1. I like the sit harness but the seat does seem to go quite quickly sometimes. This last one has only been used for 6 months, and went today. Don't think I can face paying for another new model of this any time soon - anyone know anywhere online you can buy replacement seats? I can only find the whole shebang. Or alternatively, can anyone recommend a similar sit harness which is comfortable to use and actually lasts?

  2. Unless it's something small and easy it makes sense to keep checking with the groundsman as they'll see what the customer will see. It's not as though it takes long to ask where best to cut (to give the right shape). If it's a larger tree then I think it often would be difficult to get it equal on both sides without some sort of check from the ground.

  3. I`ve found these ones to be perfectly good.

Sordin ear defenders for helmet chipper 31SNR | F R Jones and Son

That's what I currently use but I still find too much sound gets through at times. It seems there's perhaps a limit to how effective ear muffs are on their own - to block out a lot of sound a combination of the muffs and plugs looks to be the best way.

Thanks for all the replies - will look into getting some of the plugs suggested.

  4. Hi guys, we've just got a new chipper. It's a bit of a beast to be honest and much louder than the old one so starting to seriously think about protecting my hearing - really don't want to be deaf or suffering from tinitus in later life.

What is the best in terms of heavy duty, reliable hearing protection? Ear defenders or ear plugs? I saw on another thread that someone had ear plugs worth £500 :001_huh: Don't think I can quite justify that but below £100 could be considered.

Any recommendations of manufacturers etc appreciated. If there's been other threads or existing info I've missed then feel free to put in a link!

    Cheers,

    Michael
