  1. Speeding should not be a problem in Jersey there is only one Dual carriageway and that has a speed limit of 50 if my memory serves me correctly. The rest of the island is 30 mph. I would check with local police. I did a search on VOSA Jersey and Channel islands and nothing sprung up apart from cars being brought in Jersey and moved to England.

Damn my brothers car was a death trap, Passenger door came open when you went round a roundabout. Brakes were none existent. Doors didn't lock. He did only use it to drive to the beach and go surfing.

  2. Avoid polybushes they just wear out your radius arms and such like. Stick with standard bushes much cheaper and you can buy them individually.

Have a look at police Spec range rover springs these were very heavy duty and probably the same as the 130's.

I know there is a chart online somewhere that gives you the load ratings and colour markings for standard landrover springs.

Avoid Pro Comp shocks. They are not the best out there. Always worth spending some more money on your shocks.

Land rover Spring specs chart thingy

  3. Only way around people pretending to be you is when you go and quote for the work, pass on your card and perhaps show them you Drivers license so they can be sure it is you that is providing the work. Then if they do get a chance that trys it on they can ask for ID to verify the business card.

  4. I hate the feeling that someone you don't know has been in/on your property. The missus car was broken in to the other week. Stole the Tom Tom and left everything else. We thought we had left the car unlocked until we spoke with a Neighbour whose car was also broken in to on the same night and they too also thought they had left the car unlocked. No sign of forced entry.

Apparently according to the police there is a device that can block remote car fobs from activating the central locking. So you press the button and think you've locked the car when it actually has been blocked and the thieves come along in middle of night and take what they want.

  5. I've worked with my friend helping out in his business for years on call outs when he had the council contract etc etc. It wasn't until last year that i choose to do the CS30 course but then i never picked up a saw before hand as I'm not one to use equipment without proper training.

I have common sense and apply it all the time. I just feel that if you have common sense then you can also be blinded by it and feel as though you are doing things correctly. I have a healthy respect of all power tools, equipment that brings a high risk of serious injury. I apply the same to weapons. It's not the equipment it's the person behind the equipment that is dangerous. I've taught countless new recruits weapon handling skills and the correct and safe way to use a rifle, yet i would not pass them on there weapon handling skills as they are still dangerous in my eyes and would not take them on the range. Some people just don't have the skill for manual handling of tools/equipment.

It's the same for electrics. I know i could do the job, but choose to call my mate who is a qualified electrician to carry out the work in a safe manner and have peace of mind that the job has been done as safe as possible.

  6. Being smart and presentable in this business is hard work. Customers do not expect you to be pristine. However if you are quoting then wear clean working trousers/Combats and say a t-shirt/fleece with company logo on to give you that first impression.

Vehicle wise it doesn't matter on the age as long as it's kept clean and people can read your sign writing. No rust is always good as well as it shows you maintain your kit.

Once you have the job turning up with clean and serviceable equipment and employees with the correct PPE to carry the job out will always help promote your business just as much as you completing the job satisfactorily as quoted will help word of mouth business.

The way you act throughout the entire job will have bearing on the way the customer views you. Some just go for the first impression but others will critic you on the whole job. It's just the way some people are. Always good to be aware of who you are working for and what there expectations may be.

  7. Avoid Freelanders if you want to tow.

What is your budget? Decide on that first then have a look around.

I would suggest a Disco 2, V8 with Gas kit fitted or TD5. Get the XS model and you will have seat heaters and aircon as standard. Plus heated screen etc etc

  8. Firstly what is your budget?

My friend gets used laptops from his workplace (legit ones as, not stolen) that are only a few years old and are no longer any use to the business but are fine for home use/small business.

He can get them with Windows 7 or Windows XP your choice.

I think the last one he sold was £200 Dell, wide screen jobbie.

  9. Man up and get on and follow the work. If your only tie is your daughter and you have her at weekends then no harm in traveling back each weekend. Look at buying tickets in advance that will also save you some money instead of a ticket each week. Having been in the Army then you should be used to being away from loved ones for long periods of time, so 5 day's possible 2 weeks is nothing.

Good luck in your travels and look to the future.

  10. hi Sam, you are diferent from me. By the time someone handed me a card i would have them in a category already, and that category will change as the meeting unfolds.:001_smile:

Firstly time keeping, secondly vehicle, third appearance, 4th the way they carry themselves, 5th eye contact, 6th hand shake and general introduction.

If they handed me a card straight away i would either think they were nervous or full of it. And that would depend on how they handed it to me. Then the card would tell me something too, quality of print, quality of card etc etc.

I dont know what any of the letters mean, i know there is no 'letters ' police and making cards up is very simple. :001_rolleyes:

I have a range of cards and advertising gimicks to cover a wide range of person, i think you should have something similar and only hand over the right ones to the right person:thumbup1:

What happens when someone goes to shake your hand and they've placed a business card in there as though there trying to slip you some money. Like they do in the films?:shakehands:
